739911 2009-01-17 20:31:00 Does antivirus software have to be registered with Microsoft before they can be released? I ask because I have a PC here infected with Antivirus 2009, and it had to throw up a fake Security Centre, as XP didn't find it (or any others). pcuser42 (130)
739912 2009-01-17 21:38:00 Eh?

No I dont think so

Thats what AV 2009 does . Its a fake / rogue program

Get trojan remover, or malwarebytes to remove it

739913 2009-01-17 22:24:00 I know Antivirus 2009 is fake, and the fact that it didn't register itself as an "antivirus" program in Windows got me thinking about it. pcuser42 (130)
739914 2009-01-17 22:35:00 The info here may help (support.microsoft.com)

Windows Security Center searches for registry keys and files that are provided to Microsoft by independent software manufacturers. These registry keys and files let Windows Security Center detect the status of independent software. In WMI mode, software manufacturers determine their own product status and report that status back to Windows Security Center through a WMI provider.

So, youre right, whoever made the AV / firewall program provide the info

MS is the worst company to rely on for your security.

Get decent 3rd party protection and you won't have to worry about either MS or WAV2009.
