739104 2009-01-15 20:34:00 This computer's MB is dead and managed to get hold of an old GA-8I645GVM-RZ MB everything works fine except the F-USB connection. The MB's F-USB header has the following pins:
1 - Power
2 - Power
3 - USB Dx-
4 - USB Dy-
5 - USB Dx+
6 - USB Dy+
7 - GND
8 - GND
9 - No pin
10 - NC

But, the USB cable from the front Casing has only the following pins:

Data+
Data-
G
+5V

How do I connect the front USB to the MB?

739105 2009-01-15 20:45:00 One easy way - if the USB leads are these colors:

From left to right Red/White /Green /Black - with Black being the Ground (all on the same row of pins) Bottom row 1,3,5,7 top row 2,4,6,8 pin 9 is not used.

+5 = 1
Data- = 3
Data+ = 5
G = 7

Thanks, wainutech. Am I right to say that pins 1,3,5,7 is one set and 2,4,6 is another set and I can either connect the other set of usb cables to pins 2,4,6 or use another header - there are 2 USB header on this MB/

739107 2009-01-15 22:24:00 From your description, the motherboard header has space for two ports (this is almost always the case)

However, it sounds like your case only has one USB port on the front panel - is this true?

Yes - pins 1,3,5,7 are for one port and pins 2,4,6,8 are for the other. 9 & 10 are just there to provide a key so that you can't put a full connector in around the wrong way (although in your case they may not do anything)

This case has got 2 USB ports. So, I can either:
1. connect both the USB Ports to the same header, or
2. connect 1 USB port to header No. 1 and the other USB port to header No. 2.

739111 2009-01-15 23:53:00 The USB is a standard pin arrangement, with two rows, front rows are for 1 port, back rows for another.

If the USB plugs are not in a "block" but are separate single plugs, they will usually have markings on the plugs to say which ones they are; you must keep the numbers in the same row as well as the right pin arrangement.

Eg: number in circle

1Data+
1Data-
1+5

2Data+
2Data-
2+5
