738947 2009-01-15 06:47:00 hi all

ive just cancelled my maxnet after getting smashed with a heap of excess data charges for the second month running.

i like the looks of xnet's plan which will give me about 30-35 GB of usage for about ~$60 a month.

I've read some bad things now about xnet and am wondering if I've made the wrong choice switching? i upload/download to rapidshare a little and have read this can be an issue.

anyone with experience with this or some advice?

basically im looking for an ISP which will give me about 30-35 (max probably 40) GB per month, full download, dont mind upload. any recommendations would be very much appreciated. don't want to pay more than $60-$70 a month.

cheers,
smashley

738948 2009-01-15 06:51:00 If you can put up / deal with Xnet's slowness sometimes, its not a prob

Quite a few people on here use Xnet. Including myself.

738949 2009-01-15 06:57:00 cool. i just read about people getting randomly disconnect because xnet assumed they were downloading dodgy or copyrighted stuff. haven't heard of this before - and not that i dl dodgy stuff, but i do use aquisition quite a lot too.

would you rate xnet over maxnet? the excess data charges ($10 per 2GB once over 20GB) are killer with them.

This hasnt happened yet, it comes into law on the 28th of Feb or something.

This will apply to ALL ISP's not just Xnet.

I wouldnt have a clue, never been with Maxnet.

I'm on the river plan with Xnet (fast as download, which happens sometimes, NOT always, and 128 k upload). I put my own cap on @ 15 GB.

Never been that high tho, since I joined Xnet (Oct 2006)

Highest I've used is just over 5 GB (about $40-41 a mth)

Good thing with Xnet (well when I joined anyway, was there was no $10 fee, if you didnt use their home phone whatever its called (dont see why I should pay it anyway, I dont have a phone / the phone here isnt mine)

And you can cap yourself (which I did), or pay so much a mth, depending on how many GB's you download / use

738951 2009-01-15 07:19:00 thanks.

so when you say slow, do you mean say youtube is non-watchable or live streaming in not viewable?

cheers

That and downloading files, downloading files can go right down to 30-maybe 40k.

Usually depending on what youre getting, and where it is, you can go x10+ higher

It depends on what plan you go on as well, as NOT all of the plans support ADSL2+

738953 2009-01-15 08:11:00 Thanks. I've got the FLS down / 128k up plan with unlimited data usage.

 at 30-40k. Hope this is VERY infrequent. That's dial up speeds...

738954 2009-01-15 08:38:00 That sounds like the river plan

Umm afraid to say its often, Xnet (so they say) are fixing (or trying to) fix it

738955 2009-01-15 09:07:00 Hmmm...

I'm starting to think that I should just suck it up, pay $80 and join Telecom with their Pro plan.

Telecom sound like they've really got it together since I was last with them 18 months ago (and on that mess of an 'unlimited' plan).

If I can't decide by morning I'll call Xnet and cancel my application (that I made tonight). I'll just say I don't agree with the terms and conditions - it isn't like they give you a chance to go over them on their 'taped' phone application... :stare:

738956 2009-01-15 09:26:00 Problem is that Xnet resell Xtra's service mostly on that plan.

Im about to switch to Orcon (Its been dragged out by the bill-payer here), but their ADSL2+ service is purely their own, and currently from what I can tell its completely free of any of the issues Telecom have had ;)
