I have noticed a lot of that around here as well. Bit hard to tell sometimes.

541605 2007-04-17 01:51:00 .............Late last week, some bee-keepers claimed that the phenomenon - which started in the US, then spread to continental Europe - was beginning to hit Britain as well.................. This had me questioning it instantly. If it's only just hit Britain, then it seems hard to explain why the bees would wait till now. The Themes has for years had the issue of being clogged with dead cellphones.

Perhaps the bees just plain don't want to be bees anymore?:p

541607 2007-04-17 03:17:00 Todays teenagers are the "Me - now" generation, perhaps that entitles them to early senility. That is one serious penalty for eating blue chips.
There are possibly still one or two twenty-somethings that consider that life is not quite extinct after 19.

You haven't met my friends. They're only 16-18, and they're already senile after 2-3 years of cellphone use. :p

Really hope the big guy doesn't see this post, though.....

541609 2007-04-17 04:15:00 nothing to new. bees don't like big EMF, which is why you don't put them near high voltage power lines (10kv etc).

cell phones hand sets won't do jack on their own, but lots of cell phone transmitting towers will.

however it may be mixed results with due to certain pesticides which kill off bees. have a look at the pesticide maf was going to use to kill off the bees in the south island. the manafacture will not let them use it, because it offically doesn't kill bees ! its commanly used in europe where the company has "proven" it dosn't kill bees.

541610 2007-04-17 08:31:00 yea, i reckon global warming, pesticides and disease all could play a part alongside electromagnetic radiation - and cellphones are not the only source of this

they said parasites etc won't go near abandoned hives... sounds like a disease to me

generally any bee or wasp will rob out the hive, unless there is none around due to high EMF or poisen. would be fairly rare to have a disease thats wipes out all the insects.
