541531 2007-04-16 10:44:00 That is quite neat. Red Hat and Debian are certainly prolific breeders!

I didn't realise SuSE (x S.u.S.E) was a branch off Slackware. Being RPM based I'd always thought it came from Red Hat.

So is Yoper, I guess it depends how the distribution is started, i.e. start from scratch, or take another distro, at least initially, and improve on it.

Is anyone here still running Yoper, if so, how's it doing? I got a frustrated with a few stability issues and the stall in development/servers being down for an extended period, but I still have a soft spot for it, except for the RPM side, which incidentally I thought they were going to change to a portage or yast style maintenance system(?).

541535 2007-04-16 19:22:00 From that timeline, Yoper is a branch of its own and not from Slackware. I see from an old interview with Andreas Girardet that the install scripts are from LFS (Linux from Scratch) and that he has really mixed and matched the best from the other distros to give him what he wanted. A bit of a moggy really. :p

I'm not sure how much Andreas is involved with Yoper now and I think he has handed over the leading reins to others.

541537 2007-04-17 00:23:00 Is anybody here using Yoper? Murray P (44)
541538 2007-04-17 02:34:00 That's really interesting, I hadn't realised how old Yoper and Puppy were. I knew Yoper was old, but not that old. Puppy I thought was in the last few years actually, maybe it was the name? Faded_Mantis (79)
541539 2007-04-17 08:32:00 I had never really thought much about it before. But as a virtual machine I've played around with SUSE a bit, and so far I'm very impresssed.
Never really could take to Red Hat and it's derivatives. I quite appreciate Gentoo but mainly I've used Debian type distros (apt-get is good).
