| 541087 | 2007-04-15 11:52:00 | What rubbish, The amount of seals is monitered,And why do you think they beat em for minutes? They would be pulp after beating for minutes,a leaking bag of mash, and the beater would be exhausted. i agree, one good smack to the head and if it isn't dead it sure ain't conscious. the reason they don't shoot them is it can put holes in the fur. furthermore, it's culling. half of them would starve to death anyway. it's just like us trapping and killing possums over here - have you seen half the traps they use? i know we used to have a cage where it would trap the thing after it touched the bait inside. the old man would simply tie a rope to the cage and chuck it in the pond to drown it. I've seen people take multiple shots at them and not necessarily recover a body. even those traps that break their necks aren't exactly humane. sure they're pests over here, but over in aussie they're endangered and considered 'cute'. i doubt the situation in canada is any different. and i'm sure a club is better than being eaten alive by a natural predator |

| 541089 | 2007-04-15 13:23:00 | I am not trying to define what animals can be hunted and eaten. The Canadian seal hunt is particularly barbaric. The seals are clubbed to death. That is why the hunt is being objected to. I have seen this event on TV some time ago. I have also seen elephants shot for the tusks (Ivory) The seals are used for fur in the fashion stakes and as far as I know the carcass is not eaten. In the UK they may have banished fox hunts (TalleyHo). In New Zealand we export Lambs after being a little bit dead. Some sheep are so called culled if a farmer has too little grazing for them. Try turning your opinion to "mans inhumanity to man" In the event you were found guilty of murder in the established court where you are would you like have "firing sqaud, lethal injection, hung, electric chair, etc." I agree that the seal hunt method of killing is barbaric but no more so than Wars. If I go fishing with bait and catch a fish with intentions of eating the fish the said fish will have a hook in the mouth will it not? I will tire it out and raise it out of its natural environment. After that I will usually scale it and fillet. Do you eat meat? Does a carrot squeal when you harvest it? |

| 541090 | 2007-04-15 13:40:00 | I don't condone the killing of animals when they are useless dead. Farm animals are bred by the millions, and the survival of their species are ensured. On the contrary, endangered animals such as elephants, tigers, lions etc are not specifically bred, and they are deliberately killed by men, and their survival is almost not supported. Dogs and cats on the other hand, are companion animals. They were specifically bred for companionship and workforce, not as steak on the table. Dogs and Cats are used as food in some countries. Take China for example. OTOH I do not think China uses Pandas for food. Then we have the USA and bears are a problem. Hello Yogi. Picnic baskets! |

Pet food maybe? Gin traps for Opussums have been banned for years in New Zealand. |
