739867 2009-01-17 21:06:00 I'm finding the windows 7 beta quite good apart from the odd little quirk. I wouldn't run it on a cheap PC - its not much faster than Vista.
I think my firefox bug is the fault of firefox, not windows 7. Bookmarks work as an admin, but not as a limited user.

I'm running as a limited user. Are the rest of you using the beta doing the same?

739868 2009-01-17 21:24:00 I'm using an admin user. bob_doe_nz (92)
739869 2009-01-17 21:30:00 It installed and ran pretty fast on the AMD 754 pin here. No probs at all.

Its not exactly the fastest machine around (1.6 ghz, 1.25 GB ram).

739870 2009-01-17 22:47:00 So far like what I'm seeing with Windows 7.

I have W7 installed on one of the workshop PC's which has changable drives, so I actually have two copies of W7 I play with, along with XP, Vista, Linux or what ever, by simply changing drives.

The PC is not exactly top of the range - P4 2.4 CPU 1 Gb RAM - 80Gb HDD and a FX5200 Graphic card. Runs Windows 7 sweet as , no problems at all.

I also have Vista on another drive/cradle I can simply throw in so the hardware is exactly the same - Performance wise Windows 7 eats Vista and spits it out

Just today finishished building a new Vista PC for the office ( MS gave me a few copies of Ultimate- so better use them) while not a gaming PC as I dont game - its got a Asus P5QL-E Board - Q6600 CPU - 2Gb RAM - 9600GSO Graphic card - as a test earlier in the week - I pressed the start buttons on the workshop PC and New Office one at the same time - W7 was up and running, fully loaded while vista was only getting to the desktop.

If it wasn't for the fact W7 was Beta - I would have no doubts of installing that instead of Vista.
Yesterday I installed W7 on another drive in the New PC to see what the differance was--- Holy  Lets say when W7 goes RTM - Vista's comming out - as long as Microsoft dont do something stupid and stuff it up.

Antivirus - Been using Nod32 - no problems at all. I did read some do have problems but it was to do with some network drivers - which has now been fixed ??

Umm yes and no for that. I had NOD32 the one you gave me a key for.

I was still getting 2 errors in event viewer (when I opened up a networked folder. If this is what youre talking about).

This was / is the only time these 2 errors come up (when I did the above)

Chillisoft up here, said these 2 errors were fixed in a previous version of NOD32.

They were trying to get me to crash the system so they could have a look at the dump file,to see what was causing it. BUT no matter what I tried (they sent me a link how to do it) the bloody thing didnt/wouldn't crash lol

Why its still happening here, I have no idea.

In the end I got rid of it, (It wasnt easy).

The bloody thing uninstalled OK, but left its folders, files, and entry in services lol.

I had to search the registry for its service (it was still in services, after I had uninstalled it). Whats the point in having an uninstall option, if all it does is, remove the entry in add/remove programs, and nothing else

And went back to Avast.

It would have gone sooner or later anyway. I did a clean install 2 days ago

739872 2009-01-17 23:06:00 On Windows 7 I'm only using the Nod32 Antivirus, not the Smart Security - I'm using smart security on every thing else though with no problems.

From what I read, ESS was the one having problems with the network drivers - it was mentioned in wilder security the fix was meant to be out - but I cant confirm that.

739873 2009-01-17 23:10:00 Yup thats the site I had a look at, saying it had been fixed.

Somehow, they must have missed out NZ or me

739874 2009-01-17 23:34:00 That Firefox bug sounds familiar...I had it after updating to Firefox 3 once. You can fix it in the options, let me just see if I can find which ones you have to change.

Ah, here we go.

1. Enter about:config in the Location Bar
2. In the Filter box, type browser.places
3. Context-click (right-click) any preference with a user-set status (e.g., browser.places.importBookmarksHTML)
4. Click "Reset".

739875 2009-01-17 23:55:00 W7 works with MBAM and Spybot too, just tried.

Avast works perfectly

Edit: The problem troubleshooting recorder thing looks nice..

739876 2009-01-18 00:04:00 Anything will probably work in the 32 bit version.

It maybe the 64 bit version, that may have probs, with some programs
