| 738912 | 2009-01-15 15:49:00 | I am using the following FREE security programs. 1. Hotspot Shield 2. FoxyProxy with TOR 3. TrueCrypt 4. PeerGuardian 2 5. Privacy Guardian Another method I was thinking of was a Live Linux dvd and have all the downloads go to a PORTABLE external harddrive. And another method I was thinking of was VMware or other virtualisation software as well that would have downloads go to a portable harddrive. I have to protect myself dont I? I mean I do have a computer don't I so I must be guilty of something? I buy a dvd movie I cant return it to a shop if something is wrong with it etc. I buy a game I cant return it to a shop if something is wrong with it etc. I buy a music cd I cant return it to a shop if something is wrong with it etc. So you are gulity for doing nothing wrong and now they want to do this as well? What's next listening to everyone's phone conversation's? Oh they all ready do that don't they? If you treat law abiding people as pirates when they are not,and they don't get any justice when they are in the right then maybe they will become pirates. If you bought it and it does not work and so you get it of the internet to get what you bought in the first place and now it works are you a pirate? Or is the company that put the DRM on it,and made it like that the pirate stealing your money and you ending up with a non working media? What about everyone with an Ipod/mp3 player etc. what you going to do with them. Oh yeah I really bought my 10,000 or whatever songs on my Ipod/mp3 player MR policeman or whatever say all the Ipod/mp3 player people. |

Considering I know for certain that 3, 4, 5, 7 & 8 will be no help whatsoever, thats an aweful lot of trouble. They would add plausible deniability should somebody show up at your house. Dont even get me started on Peer Guardian, I had a huge rant on Darkside a while back, its pointless software mostly! ;) That software (with the exception of 2) will not keep people from seeing the traffic coming from your PC, or as orgininating from your PC, they'll still know its you .... If you treat law abiding people as pirates when they are not,and they don't get any justice when they are in the right then maybe they will become pirates. Unfortunately it reminds me of Shawshank Redemption, Andy says: "On the outside, I was straight as an arrow. They had to send me to prison to make me a crook". Unfortunately it *is* ONLY the law-abiding citizens who'll be hurt by this :( What about everyone with an Ipod/mp3 player etc. what you going to do with them. Oh yeah I really bought my 10,000 or whatever songs on my Ipod/mp3 player MR policeman or whatever say all the Ipod/mp3 player people. Technically according to NZ Copyright law, Im pretty sure most iPods in NZ arent legal unfortunately, even if you rip from CDs :( However Im not a lawyer, and could be wrong there ... |

| 738914 | 2009-01-15 19:52:00 | Tried Tor, slowed me down a lot..and NZs bandwidth is slow enough ! Hotspot Sheild is working ok for me, just need to remember to turn it on... Am about to load Foxy Proxy Already use peer guardian, amazing the number of blocks it puts up and makes you wonder just who is trying to access your computer.. And lastly, DRM was the only reason , when it came time to upgrade, that I bought a Mac laptop instead of a Vista version. Whilst it appears that we are doing these things to cover untoward behaviour, these are measures that most people should be taking as a matter of course, for their own security. |

| 738917 | 2009-01-15 21:48:00 | The impression I have is that the copyright holder would need to report the violation. It seems that reports are few and far between at the moment (I've been using the net since 1995 and have never been accused of piracy, despite that I pirated a LOT of stuff when I was younger). I'm not sure whether this new law would increase the frequency of reports or not (does the new law make it easier to report violations?). The other concern I have is false reports. What happens if I get accused of pirating a song that I never downloaded? What if it's a neighbour on my wifi? |

And most of their other customers ! Think of the band width that will be freed up ! And who will be made to monitor your traffic and report it to someone ? |

| 738919 | 2009-01-15 22:09:00 | All the programs I have are working fine so far anyway and I have been using them all for a awhile now without any conflicts or hiccups . But I just went to www . download . com and got them and I was going "I'll have that one and that one and oh that sounds good I'll have that too etc . As for paranoid, well better to do something then nothing!!!:D And as for DRM,yeah XP is the last OS I am going to use from M$ as I only need it for games and I have I think about well over 80 games off the top of my head without looking at my folders and stuff so that will last me as I have not even finished most of them and then I go out and buy another new game and so on and so on and when they stop making new games for XP sweet as all the XP games that I did not get to buy will be on discount/bargin bins and cheap as,instead of $120 . 00/$100 . 00 they will be $20 . 00 . Cool by me!!!:D And M$ will make me use Linux for everything else!!!HAHA:D I love that M$ are driving people to use a FREE OS that M$ hates,HAHA!!! |

| 738920 | 2009-01-15 22:28:00 | Yeah what about in a divource, everyone knows that people make things up to get pay back. Or neighbours at war with each other, now you can use their wifi internet and pirate something and they get in trouble!!! Is there going to be a rewared for dobbing people in? Be real good when your broke,"lets see now who can I dobe in this week?" Or kids not getting what they want or do what they want and so to get back at their parents they pirate something and then dobe them in for pay back!!! What about pirating at work...... What about pirating at school...... |

| 738921 | 2009-01-15 23:23:00 | Well, if I were still working you dont have access (unless you get permission) to get onto the net. So, that fixed that prob And when I went to school and even college, computers and the internet didnt exist! So, there was nothing to connect to, or pirate. I'm not worried about DRM. Everything I use / or play doesnt have it |
