541912 2007-04-18 01:59:00 Manuals are no use to me - send a couple of automatics - (recent models preferred) and then re-survey ;)

Whew! You made me think I goofed on the spelling . . . but:

Manual def . ,

. . . a book containing special services for occasional use, such as baptisms, marriages and visiting the sick

concept system leading to the base list of concepts to be defined .

Annotation of the texts involves highlighting the terminology units identified during reading and marking those parts of the text that provide information about the concepts to be defined .

A compact book that treats concisely the essentials of a subject .

A book of rules or guidelines; a handbook .

. . and MY favorite definition:

A term of extraction that involves attentively reading and annotating a series of documents selected after consulting documentalists and subject-field specialists . The results are used to establish the subject-field breakdown and marking those parts of the text that provide information about the concepts to be defined . :groan:

541914 2007-04-18 02:15:00 Spelling is good SurferJoe, but your lexicographer should go do a little more drudgery .
From a reputable dictionary ( . m-w . com/cgi-bin/dictionary?sourceid=Mozilla-search&va=manual" target="_blank">www . m-w . com
Main Entry: 1man·u·al):

Pronunciation: 'man-y&-w&l, -y&l, -yü-&l
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English manuel, from Anglo-French, from Latin manualis, from manus hand; akin to Old English mund hand and perhaps to Greek marE hand
1 a : of, relating to, or involving the hands <manual dexterity> b : worked or done by hand and not by machine <a manual transmission> <manual computation> <manual indexing>
2 : requiring or using physical skill and energy <manual labor> <manual workers>

Like most places, we have more hand job exponents than we require .

541916 2007-04-18 05:42:00 Reminds me of an old story...

Before marriage, put a stone in a jar for each time you have sex.

After marriage, take one out each time you have sex.

You will never empty the jar....

:D :D :D :D :D

Hhmmm.
It'd be interesting to know who they surveyed.
Not everyone would agree...

I take it you are speaking from personal experience Laura. Must be that clear fresh air down there in the Mainland and the long twilight evenings (plus a glass or two of Marlborough chardonnay). Eva Cassidy on the record player.... a long white silky negligee
Pheww ! - getting hot under the collar just thinking about it !! :o :D

Well, you may speculate, Misty.

I couldn't possibly comment.

541920 2007-04-18 06:31:00 ... Sorry to hear of the sad state of sex on your island nation...can I send some clinical instruction manuals? The moral regulators of your country didn't allow Married Love (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Married_Love) by Marie Stopes to be imported in 1918, Joe. It's a good thing they had plenty of gooseberry bushes and storks. Graham L (2)

See that Wikipedia mention in the same article about James Joyce's "Ulysses".
I remember travelling up from Hamilton to Auckland to view the movie. The theatres had separate sessions for men and women. Seems very bizarre now !
