| 541847 | 2007-04-17 23:02:00 | This student (Cho Seung-Hui) is purported to have bought 2 black market handguns and he is not naturalized or a born citizen . The real culprit here is the lax law enforcement and the black market seller of the guns . These laws somehow get shoved under the radar and they anti-nuts go ape on the situation as they see it . Sorry Surfer but you can't pin it on the blackmarket "One law enforcement official said Cho's backpack contained a receipt for a March purchase of a Glock 9 mm pistol . Cho held a green card, meaning he was a legal, permanent resident, federal officials said . That meant he was eligible to buy a handgun unless he had been convicted of a felony . " |

" I'll see your response and raise you: The black market thing was sortta substantiated by the news that the serial numbers had been obliterated . . . a sure sign of some sort of illegal activity . But, I DID answer before you did . . neener, neener! |

| 541849 | 2007-04-17 23:35:00 | I did try an edit but the web in NZ is a bit like treacle this morning. I was surprised when this first happend, some reporters didn't seem to believe that "just" a handgun was involved. |

| 541853 | 2007-04-18 02:21:00 | Someone remind me how many Americans killed in Iraq since 2003? One doesn't exactly expect to be massacred on campus whereas there is always a risk of injury or fatality when one is on overseas duty whilst in the services. |

| 541854 | 2007-04-18 11:15:00 | firstly, jack thompson is out touting his anti-video games crap anyway . that man has serious issues, and is so stupid it isn't funny secondly, other countries have gun laws similar to the US but still manage significantly lower murder rates perhaps it's the people using the guns, not the guns themselves? then again without the guns they couldn't use them, and again if they wanted them they would still be able to get them legally or not . so it's a bit of a pickle really thirdly, if you were the police, faced with a murder in a dorm, would you automatically think that the killer would reappear later that day to kill as many students as possible and then himself . and then act on that closing down a university and somehow removing thousands of students and staff from the area, at a horrendous cost to student, university and police? i know i wouldn't fourthly, why is the US the only place to have these things happen, along with pathetic law suits like the guy who (successfully) sued a campervan manurfacturer after his campervan crashed when he put it on cruise control and went into the back to make a coffee . finally, "only in america" |

| 541855 | 2007-04-18 11:22:00 | I can't see what the problem is, America's leaders have shown its people time and time again that weapons designed to kill are cool, That any excuse to kill people is enough, and that you sort out problems (real and imagined) by killing scores of people. | Metla (12) | ||

America gives out guns for less than the price of a cheap TV. Why shouldn't they expect gun related violence to occur. | Greg (193) | ||
