| 541355 | 2007-04-18 18:54:00 | Take a bloody great spear to wipe out an entire city . But thanks to the US for trying to boss around the entire world because they hold a crapload of weapons of mass destruction, and as a country your not scared of killing as many people as it takes to . . . . . um . . . what the hell are they trying to acheive again? I see your point, Metla . . . but think a little longer here: This is truly the "big gorilla with a big stick and a bad attitude" here (the US) Ask yourselves, if NZ were top dog at the moment, would it not also swing a mighty hammer? I am not saying it is the right thing to do . . but remember this . . . "Power corrupts; and absolute power absolutely corrupts" I am sorry for all the things this country does in the name of righteousness . . . . but if the shoe were on someone else's foot . . . in whose butt would it be planted then? "Nuke 'em 'till they glow" is not an option, and I don't believe it ever was . I personally think it's just a problem of cyclical timing; the "pendulum effect" if you will . The US is at it's most dire crossroads now . . . the great referendum is about to begin . . . and the next dog will be moving into the manger . . . sad thing is this: (unfortunately) as the US ruled, people pretty much knew where they stood at any given moment . The above effect . . . of knowing what laws were to your benefit and were not, meant that you could very well live within those laws and rules . The US for all it's nastiness and secretive acts, still moved rather slowly in assuming roles of world domination . Any invasions usually came from perceived dangers (The Monroe Doctrine or "The Clear-And-Present-Danger Act), or actual taking hostages (The War With The Barbary Pirates) or threats to internal security (The American Revolution . . . er . . . against England) . The role of "World's Savior" and "Kindly Christian Nation" soon wore off when others tried to take advantage of that nobilis . I can see where other nations resented that power and prestige . "Dotty Old Fool" is more like it now . The US won the cold war by simply outspending the Russian Bear . They blinked first when they went broke . That war cost us dearly in lives, morality, internal disorder and the worst part is that the banks and financial institutions have not recovered YET . . . that is why the US is so intent on energy in the form of oil . . . it's the MONEY! When the next Big Gorilla rises, where will your understanding and functioning under their laws then be? The old laws will be gone and a new set of rules will exist . Your courts will be toothless, your attorneys dumb . I don't think things will be so cut and dried like we are so used to now . . . turmoil aside for the moment . The learning curve will be steep and not as easily understood by Anglo-races, methinks . You 'n' me is both Anglo-based . . . . . right? Don't get all knee-jerky about this . . . we are all in this same boat . . . . . I applaud NZ's staunch independence and all . . . but everyone can breathe a little easier when the rules don't change every day . I also don't want to turn this into another spiritual/demagogic debate again . . . just be careful what you wish for . . . it might come true . . . . and I'm not going there again . Besides, NZ doesn't have enough oil for the US to want to invade it anyway . |
