540699 2007-04-14 16:43:00 TYPICALLY...in the past months M$ has said it would end XP support en toto, two years after the release of Vista...but there's been a new life-cycle added, if you will..here's the semi-official post on it:

Personally, I would listen to this rant..anybody who can make an animated icon appear in my Firefox browser tabs has my attention......

540700 2007-04-14 17:12:00 The time warp got me and I didn't get to edit my above rant....here's more....

Microsoft's policy from may '04:

www.microsoft.com
clearly state:

"The updated policy provides customers with five years of mainstream support after the date of general availability or two years after the successor product ships, whichever is longer."

Windows Vista hasn't really begun shipping worldwide yet if we count acceptance of the product, implementation and updating, so two years of XP support from now on is well within the policy that's been around for a while.

The only real harbinger of this and the fly in the ointment is the US Govt, which or who states: ".......it isn't gonna buy all dem new puter-things as they's got no moneys to do so anyways and the taxpayers is gonna revolt, as revolting as that may be...sniff!...'cause we like to spend money."

That means, in less than a year, Microsoft will be forcing the market towards Windows Vista by removing Windows XP from the equation, despite mounting frustrations from PC users - including some Microsoft execs in conversation with El Reg - over the basics such as lack of driver support.

540702 2007-04-15 06:48:00 It is very strange - XP was fairly commonly stated to be a sluggish bloated pig 12 months ago - since Vista arrived it has magically become "good old reliable, fast, lean and economical XP."
Competition is a marvelous thing, it improved XP hugely just by not changing it.
:D:G :)

BTW: Apple has collapsed - their magical immunity from bugs is shown to be a fallacy (www.abc.net.au).
If we can't deport the damned Apples, we are going to be overrun with them to the delight of up to .001% of the adult population.

540703 2007-04-15 07:14:00 This doesn't bother me. Vista should be a fully fledged OS by then, and be stable enough for people to trust. Also the speed of the average PC should of doubled aswell, removing any "but vista is a resource hog" claims.
Well Jams you may well have money to burn on a new OS plus all the upgrades to the PC which appear to be required before you even install the beast. With the additional RAM and HD requirements before you even buy Vista (not to mention all the things you have already installed which will not run properly as Vista has still not provided the neccessary solutions) we are not just talking here about an upgrade but in many cases a new box of tricks-which from what I have read on this and other forums will still need upgrading straight out of the box unless you are prepared to spend more again! As to the stability of the new OS the jury is still out on that aspect and will be for some time to come.
Regards Gordon.

i'll assume you're being sarcastic.
