540683 2007-04-13 07:40:00 Rhubarb leaves are very useful to the home poisoner. Raw, they contain oxalic acid, which isn't good for you. Cooking causes a reaction which produces prussic acid which is even worse. Graham L (2)

540685 2007-04-13 08:18:00 Following on from Graham, rhubarb is also excellent for helping to form kidney stones (Joe take note), it's the oxalate that does it :)

I used to eat a lot of rhubarb, rhubarb pie, yummy, ......... until I had a kidney stone some 35 years ago.

540686 2007-04-13 08:22:00 I believe it was a popular, frequently used, word on the Goon Show. Used as "Voices Off", & crowd scenes. PJ Poppa John (284)
540687 2007-04-13 08:28:00 And, inspired by the Goon show, there was even a film (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhubarb_(1969_film)) made, not only called rhubarb, but using only that word in the script. Graham L (2)
540688 2007-04-13 21:29:00 Ok update

I have 2 biggish rhubarb pies in the freezer plus a batch of muffins (vaguely following Bruce's recipe), and probably making marmalade today

I have to say i am glad you can freeze rhubarb, because i am only about a third of a way through the stuff i picked and there is more in the garden

Cheers all
