739650 2009-01-17 02:31:00 Hi all,

I have a machine here that I have just reinstalled Windows 2000 Professional on and intend to use it as a file server.

Problem is - whenever I attempt to connect to it via Run>\\ComputerName, it pops up asking for a username and password. When I enter them I can access it no problems (I've shared a secondary hard disk for storage).

How can I set it up so I DON'T have to enter a username/password to access the PC?

TIA :)

739651 2009-01-17 02:48:00 Does Run>Control userpasswords2 then untick require password work, like in XP? Blam (54)
739652 2009-01-17 02:56:00 May have to go through group policy somewhere, and disable it

Run / gpedit.msc

Nope :(

Where would I go to configure the password requirement within GP?

739655 2009-01-17 20:22:00 Yeah, I found this 'problem' a while ago. W2000 does not have a hidden guest user so you have to create a user/password on the W2000 box to mirror the accessing machine's user/password. linw (53)
