739385 2009-01-16 15:21:00 I am preparing myself for upgrading to Vista when XP is no longer supported but have recently found out that my PC is "not compatable with Vista". It makes no sense. I ran the scan on the Vista disk and it reports that my computer is not compatable - I have also ran the software thru Dell Support(or lack of) and it says it is not compatable. I am not really sure why. Here are my specs;
Pentium D 3 GHz
3.50GB RAM
240GB SATA hard drive
Currently running XP Home, SP3
Bios A07

I have searched Dells website for info on why it might not be able to run Vista but to no luck. Any thoughts?
Thank you in advance.

739386 2009-01-16 18:19:00 Why would you want to change to Vista? If you are upgarding or getting a new PC it makes sense but not to change it just because.

There are probably no Vista Drivers available for your hardware, thats most likely what Dell means.

And its no good unless you have the drivers.

739387 2009-01-16 18:47:00 I'm running Windows 7 (not Vista, mind you, but close enough) on an old Dimension 1100. It can't sleep, but that's it - there's sound, and it has drivers for everything (except my PCI sound card, which was useless anyway. :D)

You could try, but the drivers may not be the best ones.

739388 2009-01-16 20:17:00 I've put Vista on to several older computers.
Just make sure the drivers are available before you start.
If you really want to be cautious dual boot it & have them both, you've got the room.
