740197 2009-01-19 01:14:00 DELL Laptop: Studio 15375 (with BluRay capability)
Home theater Amplifier: Onkyo TX-SR706
50" HD Plasma TV: Pioneer PDP505PG

All the above are connected via a HDMI cables. When I play a BluRay DVD I can see the picture on the screen perfectly fine but for some ridiculous reason I can NOT seem to get a audio signal to come out of the laptop HDMI port.

I know that the TV & the Amplifier HDMI ports are working coz I have connected my video camera that has a HDMI out into the same cable that is used by the laptop and all is fine with the audio & video.

On the laptop control panel there is a IDT Control panel software you can configure the laptop to use the HDMI port as an output rather than the headphone or internal speakers. When you do so the software has a visual spectrum that moves according to the audio. So I know that there is sound in the laptop.

The software that is used to play the BluRay DVD is DELL MediaDirect and YES on it I have configured it to output via the AC3/DTS Pass-thru via the HDMI port. I have done all the required updated for MediaDirect as well.

After this all I am stuck and having a very tough time trying to get this sorted. HAS ANYBODY HAVE ANY SOLUTIONS FOR ME?

Solution tried NO success:
Called DELL tech support and after being on the phone for a long time i was not able to get the audio bit sorted out.

740200 2009-01-19 02:46:00 Have you been to Control Panel/Sound and set the HDMI output as default?

That is what I have to do when I hook my Toshiba laptop to my TV..

Ken

PS On second thoughts it may be a HDCP problem where the equipment is protecting the signal from being copied. Mine won't play the 5.1 sound when the HDMI is connected to the TV and then TV to amp via optical signal.

HDMI and HDCP is a real dogs breakfast from what I have found. I am not to well up on these things so my comments are just from my experiences.
