2007-04-23 09:39:00 | not sure how many of you here are on quicksilver/woosh's orbit flatrate for $49.95/month no data cap only got reasonable use policy full down speed and 128kbps up speed just got an email saying how from June 1st the plan will disappear and I'll be left with 10Gb..all the way down from unlimited.. and price still the same..er the email talks about some performance decrease during the past months.. I never noticed that..I thought only the xtra people felt it.. yea..so looks like I should move to xnet or something? what was that isp that everyone recommend?? I've looked around and xnet can give me 15Gb for same speed same price as woosh xtra can give me 5Gb (I duno why I even looked this up) ihug can have 5Gb too but full speed for up and down ..or I can use ihug's $60 fair use plan from previous experience I'm guessing I need at least 30Gb..especially now with all the extra youtube and stuff is there some other isp I should look up? any recommendation or warnings..? Edit~ just read ihug's fair use policy.. isn't it just a 15Gb cap in disguise in some way..with faster 'back to adsl speed' recovery time..

2007-04-23 11:51:00 | my friend did told me that woosh doesn't offer the plan I have anymore a few weeks back... but I didn't think that they'll kick me off my current plan too at least they kinda gave us enough time to switch isp.. or to bug them until they let us keep our current plan~ argh..need some better alternative than this..sadly leaving the country is not an option..

2007-04-24 12:00:00 | ha didn't expect this issue to be mentioned in pc world's blog.. anyway here's the email In order to improve the service performance of our ADSL broadband network, we have reviewed all of our broadband plans. As a consequence, the Orbit Flatrate plan you currently have with us will be withdrawn on June 1st, and replaced with a new 10GB plan, priced at $49.95 per month. Your plan will change to the new 10GB plan on June 1st. Why is this change happening? ================================ You may have noticed a performance decrease over the last few months. This has been the result of high demand on our Orbit Flatrate plan. We want all customers to get the most enjoyment from their broadband connection, and as such we have decided that the plan withdrawal is necessary to ensure ongoing quality of service. How does this plan withdrawal affect me? ========================================= Your plan now has a 10GB per month data allowance. If you exceed 10GB, your connection will be speed limited until the end of the calendar month. You can topup your data online throughout the month if required. The Reasonable Use Policy no longer applies, and you are free to use your 10GB allowance at any time of the day. These changes will come into effect automatically on June 1st. Can I choose another plan? =========================== Yes, you are free to choose any of the current Woosh ADSL plans, which you can find at www.woosh.com There is no change fee to upgrade or downgrade your plan. If you need help ================== If you would like to speak to someone about your plan, and the best options for your needs, please ring 0800 QUICKSILVER to speak to one of our support staff. From The Quicksilver & Woosh Team sigh..still not sure what to do right now maybe wait a week or two see if they change their mind or something..

2007-04-24 14:09:00 | I just hope quicksilver/woosh does not give Xtra ideas...... One of their phone staff said it already to someone. But they don't really know whats going on higher up so the chance of it being true is 1% ;)

2007-04-24 20:34:00 | I'm in the same boat. 10gb should be ok for me though. I had noticed a slowdown recently, and several complete outages. While most of the world is gearing up for superfast speeds...NZ providers are going BACKWARDS. 50 bucks /mth for 10gb and 'unlimited' speed which struggles to get above 2mb/s for international traffic at non-peak times. Family member recently signed up for BB with telstra in wanganui. They were put on a waiting list

2007-04-24 23:53:00 | it's this going backwards thing that really puts me off for me I've been rather happy with the service they've provided for the past months..maybe I'm few of the lucky ones but 10gb...common..that's a big drop from unlimited..and for the same price too
