543504 2007-04-23 06:04:00 Today I noticed my telecom bill was higher than normal, and noticed that telecom had billed me amost $100 for listing my website address in the phone book, which I didn't give them authorisation to do. Normally my white pages listing is free and comes with the phone line. I phoned them up, and they confirmed that there was no authorisation given, and have issued a credit back for the amount. I asked why this error had occurred, and they said they didn't know, but they said it might be a marketing tactic!

Would recommend that everyone double check your telecom account. It appears that they could be trying to sneak in charges into your bill. I am not sure if this has something to do with the sale of the yellow pages to an offshore company, as I have never had this type of problem with telecom.

543507 2007-04-23 07:02:00 What I'm curious to know is how they got your website address . . .

Good question, I actually had my website listed instead of my address . I had it like that for about 7 years, and they allowed me to do this without a problem as I was still using the same amount of space . This was considered a free listing .

What they have now done, is moved the www it to it's own line as a website listing, which I didn't give them any authorisation to do . So I still have the same number of lines, but no address, just my name, a website address and a phone number, which is what I had before, but because it has got the words 'website' beside my www, they are charging nearly $100 for this 'service' .

What hacks me off is that normally they send a proof that you have to sign and authorise, but this time they haven't, and they appear to be making changes to the peoples listings without the owners permission, and then charging for these .

543508 2007-04-23 07:35:00 Also pays to check your phone listing when a new book comes out. Noticed that the latest address for me had moved me to a non-existant number on the street.

While technically I "own" that number (we have 6,000 sq. metres of land area and are allocated a total of 7 number addresses by the council) I had never used the one now advertised.

That error cost Telecom a few hundred dollars, due to me having to add some numbers to my letterbox. The postie knows where I live but courier drivers had a problem, if the phone book address was used.

For errors such as that I do not take prisoners or give up lightly.

543509 2007-04-23 07:44:00 The only thing I have from Telecom is my cellphone and landline bill. For the landline I pay around $50 a month. Last month my bill was $110. When i questioned them they said my bill was $49.95 and that it was a misprint. On top of that i havent recievec a bill in the mail since January. What gives? If anyone can recommend a good landline provider I will happily change. rob_on_guitar (4196)

I have both Telstra and telecom lines to chose from in Wellington. However friends I know who use telstra say that they have had a lot of billing problems with telstra so they may not be any better. Can't you now get a landline with ihug/vodafone, and be billed for it on the same statement.

543512 2007-04-23 11:11:00 Heh heh - I have no Landline. Every time I think of that I feel warm inside.
Pity about those who are exposed to the whims of the evil empire but - for me, they are much better than when i was on their faulty service trying to get some sense out of their faults service. All faults and no service, but plenty of charges.
