| 542243 | 2007-04-19 06:05:00 | Well...here they come...just in time to celebrate Hitler's birthday and the Columbine anniversary. This is very close to home...and the school that my stepson attends. (www.pe.com) I don't think anything's gonna happen the day after tomorrow (US time), but it is disturbing.:stare: |

| 542244 | 2007-04-19 10:37:00 | Disturbing indeed. Scary stuff. BTW, where is Murrieta - in California? I saw the Virginia killer's multimedia photos and video sent to NBC or whatever network it was, and I wondered how many copycat killings it would initiate. He did say that the Columbine killers were martyrs. If Virginia had strict gun controls like here in NZ, I doubt that Korean would have murdered anyone. But its the States and gun control just is not going to happen. |

| 542248 | 2007-04-19 13:15:00 | it's shocking that a 14 year old can obtain an assault rifle (well, shocking to a kiwi anyway) anyone else find the irony that it was a catholic school i.e. catholic child i.e. everyone knows that guy brought up in the hard-out christian family who seems a little "off-balance" despite his ciblings being perfectly normal (and by normal i mean harmless) people DISCLAIMER:i'm not flaming/looking to start a big religious debate, but it kinda stuck out for me. i know it happens to all families irrespective of religion, but it's the irony i'm after here |

I saw the Virginia killer's multimedia photos and video sent to NBC or whatever network it was, and I wondered how many copycat killings it would initiate . He did say that the Columbine killers were martyrs . If Virginia had strict gun controls like here in NZ, I doubt that Korean would have murdered anyone . But its the States and gun control just is not going to happen . Yes . . . . Murrieta is just down the road apiece from here . . . . I am in San Jacinto, California, and both cities are within Riverside County, very close to ½ way between Palm Springs and Riverside City . With a line as the base of a triangle from Los Angeles to the North, San Diego to the South, we would be at the intersection of the other two (almost) equilateral triangle legs, to the East . You've gotta remember that the state where he bought the weapon(s) is a very redneck state . Virginia is still rather closed minded and wide open, not in space and people-per-acre, but attitude . . . and it wasn't but a bunch of years ago that there was a "no Sunday Selling" law, when no stores were open on Sunday . I lived there for a while and found it to be very close-minded and bigoted . Antebellum attitudes still prevail and there's a festering hate for Northerners and the loss of the Civil War . They will viciously defend that attitude . I don't think that the killer learned anything new from Virginia; he had something wrong with his brain anyway . Sad part was that the locals knew he was a potential WMD and did nothing about it . He had been institutionalized a few times and yet bought firearms counter to the "computer search" results outcome . He shouldda had a Boolean flag somewhere . |

Unfortunately, there is a rather firm dislike in the US for Koreans . This too will fuel new disrespect and hate mongering . |

He had been institutionalized a few times and yet bought firearms counter to the "computer search" results outcome . Antebellum - a new word for me . and it is LATIN :D - before the war . Surfer, are there any states with such strict gun controls that would have denied Cho Seung-Hui buying a gun? It would mean that anyone going to a counsellor for suicidal tendencies, etc . , would be put into a database that could be accessed by police . I am not saying this is totally wrong but civil rights activists would go bananas, maybe counsellors also since it would put people off seeking help . About Virgina: a long time ago I had neighbours who lived in Virginia for a few years . The man taught at a university, maybe even Virginia Tech as I recall it was a town and not a big city . They were from England . Suddenly they decided to get the hell out of the states and move to 'safe' little old New Zealand (well, it was safer 30 odd years ago) . Why the move? The local sheriff was a friend of theirs and he was gunned down, murdered . Here in NZ and I guess most all other countries in the world, there are NO gun shops . And no place like K-Mart (= The Warehouse) that has a gun section . I think the only place to buy a gun is at hunting stores and it seems to me to be fairly low key . Can someone here buy a pistol other than an air powered one? I am not sure but if they can I believe the pistol must be kept at a registered locked up gun club, not the buyer's home . Lets see Laura, is this my big 2000th post? |
