543236 2007-04-23 00:53:00 Spot the propaganda!

"Though Maori and Europeans freely intermarry and have similar ways of life, each maintains its identity, so social and cultural aspects remain distinct for each group."

Wow... so i must have been mistaken when i thought that tagging and wearing the hoodies, was an American thing adopted so quickly by culture less kiwis of any shade you like....

All original cultures in this country are nothing but distant memorys..

Meh, when my extended family have a get together and the old songs, dance and speeches come out you can feel em reach far back.

When its done well its damn impressive, at other times its a long drawn out load of crap, Best to leave, and good job if it insults em.

543243 2007-04-25 00:45:00 Thanks for the reply all. The reason I had asked this question is because communications skills are increasingly emphasised and sought from pharmacists. As a result, it is important for health practitioners to be able to establish rapport and develop empathy with the clients, aside from providing competent health services to them.

Since we are catering a diverse range of people out there, consequently it is rather important for me to understand how some people perceive certain social gestures.

Based on what I have read so far from this thread, I suppose eye contact is an acceptable form of establishment of rapport amongst the Maori - and no, I don't think I would be dispensing medicine when they are in a challenge. :D

Cheers :)
