543067 2007-04-22 00:12:00 Besides this, sight-seeing is not really what I want to do along the way; I just need to collect some documents down there, that's all.
NZ Post?

Can I second that too. I went to that a couple of years ago, and it was excellent. The cafe out the front was very very very good as well.

Err... they are important documents that I can't trust the carriers - the last time they sent them back to us, they didn't ask for signature or anything. Instead, they just dumped them into the post box.

Cheers :)

543071 2007-04-22 00:44:00 The water front walk is nice, there are also some nice walks - bush or beach.
Theres some good malls if you into shopping, but that may indeed need a car cos i dont know welly that well.

And if i was in welly id meet ya for coffee ! and yes the PF1 crew of welly is a important stop .......:p when its possible that is.

It seems that if you find the right spot, just watching welly doing welly things is a big time waster to....... the traffic, the people, the planes, trains and automobiles just constantly flowing amazes me really........... where are they all going? and why? do they stop and take a breath? have a life?

anyway not much help Laura, just have a safe trip and enjoy your time with family.

543072 2007-04-22 02:48:00 :D Of course, Laura (or James) - you could do everyone in the country a huge favour while you're in Wellington and take a leaf out of Guy Fawkes' book (but don't get caught). Just make sure they're all present when it goes sky high! :D  johcar (6283)
543073 2007-04-22 04:21:00 Point Howard eh, Laura, almost just around the corner from my place.

Kapiti Island is well worth it, out out of reach unless you have booked in advance. The Karori reserve, Kapiti pocket edition, would be a good alternative.

If you like Italian, the Bella, in Petone industrial near the mail centre, is pretty good, plus Maria's in Murphy St (need to reserve fro the latter). If you like going to the movies, the Lighthouse in Petone gives a more intimate, relaxed experience than the usual cattle pens.

543074 2007-04-22 06:55:00 Thanks so much, everyone.

My first chance to get back to PF1 (during the throes of practicalities when about to leave a house empty) and what an interesting collection of options I find...
You're a great mob of helpers.

There'll be occasional times when I'm near a comp & can see what's on the forums after Tuesday's departure, so maybe I won't vanish completely for 3 weeks..?
We'll see.

Thanks again.

543075 2007-04-22 08:38:00 Just got back from a quick 5 hour visit to Wellington and took in the Karori wildlife centre. Well worth the visit and got to see two Tuatara in the wild. They have a whiteboard system where people who have spotted one can write up the location and time for the benefit of others. I would like to take in their night tour sometime in the future Dally (6292)
543076 2007-04-22 08:56:00 Only 1 place to eat.

The Long Bar in Brandon St (in the CBD).
Very extensive menu, very reasonable prices, but you simply have to have the Mee Goreng. Best on the planet.
