2009-01-20 22:45:00 | Nope, Moving the power connection doesn't change anything: Took battery out / just AC power Blue lite on front shows power going through when I push the power button, I see a light under the s,w,e keys on the keyboard, the Blue lite on front shows power going through shuts off and if I continue holding the power button down - the blue power indicator light comes back on!?

2009-01-21 03:13:00 | Based on the above should I conclude that the previous recommendations: - If the PSU is ok (test with a multimeter) the motherboard will be dead, probably not worth repairing. - Faulty - Send it here, I'll keep it are correct??

2009-01-21 10:53:00 | Hi NZHawk Thinking about your problem today and came up with another possible answer . Not saying this is the case but it could be . First, you have checked the power supply with a multimeter . It is my guess, you simply tested the output without a load . This being the case, this is not necessary a true reading . Testing of any power supply should always be done under load . By way of illustration, imagine your car won't start . Ok, out comes the trusty multimeter . The battery shows a voltage of about 12 -13v!! What's wrong . Why won't the bloody car start? Put a load on the battery, say turn on the headlights, recheck the voltage and suddenly the reading goes blah!! Do you know anyone personally with another Toshiba A/100 or a laptop car adaptor? If you do then try your power pack in their computer and their's in your lappie . I'm thinking, perhaps the power supply is putting enough herbs out to light Leds and trickle charge the battery but when it comes to the business end of powering the laptop then it's simply can't stand the pace . This is why your computer powers up with the battery in but not with the power pack only . The battery is doing the actual work . The power supply is simply replacing some of the charge . Leave your computer going like this and eventually the power pack loses the battle and the battery will go flat too . If you did what I suggested and the computer has passed all tests in the Toshiba Diagnostics then I don't believe there's anything wrong with the actual computer or motherboard . If there was, using the battery only would not correct the problem . BURNZEE

2009-01-21 19:57:00 | Good Morning Burnzee, Very interesting thoughts! (especially at 11:53pm -> you do your best thinking late at night - hu) I did do what you suggested and the computer did pass all tests in the Toshiba Diagnostics . "Then I don't believe there's anything wrong with the actual computer or motherboard . If there was, using the battery only would not correct the problem . " sound logic . I will pursue getting the power supply tested under load and will report back although it may take some time . Cheers .

2009-01-21 20:28:00 | I'll go along with burnzee on the power supply. I have seen a similar thing with a laptop with a replacement power supply that was lower in power to the original. If the battery was getting low, it wouldn't boot.

2009-01-21 22:32:00 | Hi Driftwood Thanks for your comments. Been assuming NZHawk was using the original power pack. May be he isn't. Therefore NZHawk please check the ratings of your powerpack, mine is 15volts @ 6.0 amps, Toshiba Part# PA 2521U - 2AC3. BURNZEE
