Only night trips are available. Cheers :) Yup, and the air conditioning on some buses are terrible (YOU HEAR THAT INTERCITY!!!???) If you go on the day service, you get to go past the sights and views. |

You may want to get a second opinion...it takes 4.5 hours by bus to travel what takes 2 1/4 hours in a car north of Wgton... www.intercitycoach.co.nz The half-day journey includes several stops along the way as well. Cheers :) |

Well, it is a winter night journey, so the air-conditioning issue doesn't really bother me. :D Besides this, sight-seeing is not really what I want to do along the way; I just need to collect some documents down there, that's all. Cheers :) |

| 543060 | 2007-04-21 22:42:00 | There is an awesome Italian lpace that was on the news not long ago. But I dont know the address sorry, but very traditional Italian food and you will need to be wheelbarrowed out afterwards.:D | rob_on_guitar (4196) | ||
| 543061 | 2007-04-21 22:43:00 | OK.....I guess I don't consider 11 hours "half a day", although technically I suppose it is. You would want to assume 13 hours minimum. I am sure for marketing purposes InterCity got the 11 hours in one trip 13 years ago before our roads became the mess they are. Can you stretch the budget to a train trip? Overlander?? is it? Think you would get a much nicer trip.... |

| 543062 | 2007-04-21 23:04:00 | Budget "is not really a problem for me", but I would much prefer a safe and cheap trip. :D I have considered taking a train down to Wellington, but it costs about the same as a flight trip. Cheers and thanks for the input :) |

The excellent conservator has left, so it may have gone downhill since then, but still worth checking out. I support the others saying take a trip to the Karori Sanctuary if you like bush and birds. They also have weta hotels (true!) and the last time I was there, the bird life was amazing. If you want to go for a bush walk - day tramp - and you are at Point Howard, you can get into Butterfly Creek from Eastbourne. If you like coastal walks, and can borrow a car, take the road from Wainuiomata down the valley to the coast, turn left at the sea, drive to the farm gate and leave your car for a fabulous walk along the coast. Not recommended in southerly conditions, unless you go for 'bracing' conditions... If you like Japanese food and don't want to spend the kid's inheritance, the Myabi Sushi is a great place on Willis Street just above the intersection with Manners Street on the right hand side going uphill. It is in a wee courtyard with some other restaurants. Lovely staff, and the food is excellent. Have fun! |
