542605 2007-04-20 11:35:00 They're not "bringing XP back to bring the company outta the gutter", they're doing it because Vista sales just arent all that hot, and people _still_ want XP.

It aint going anywhere overnight, its been around for far to long to be shot down within the next 4-5 years even I'd say.

They're bringing out Desktops with Linux because there is a demand for it, just like there's a demand for XP Desktops.

Personally, Im going to start Feisty Fawn downloading ASAP :D

Dell May Be Able to Turn Itself Around
TAKEAWAY: How can Dell turn things around? It's already pouring millions into improving its maligned customer service, so perhaps we'll see some good news there in the next couple of quarters. This article suggests that the company should also expand its focus from the stagnant U.S. PC market to more robust international markets, and look to Apple's retail store strategies. Buyers like to look and touch, not just point and click.

542607 2007-04-20 21:06:00 Real stores and buildings are much nicer to roam around in than Virtual Stores; it's even nicer if they speak your language too .

The hands-on approach for consumers has always rendered more sales and contact with a product, making it more venerated and accessible than:

"Thanking you for your calling of the Department of Technicalities .

My name is Bill, how may I be helping you in assistance today?

IMO, Dell blew it royally by getting offshore people to answer the phones . . .

cheaper, yes . . . acceptable, NO!

Dell continues to take market share beating
Having Michael Dell back at the helm of his namesake company hasn't paid any quick dividends when it comes to market share. According to Gartner Research, Dell continued its slide both in the US and worldwide during the first quarter of 2007, while HP opened up an even-wider lead.

542610 2007-04-21 00:09:00 Yep, Dell's doomed alright, they'll be lucky if they even sell 50 times more than Apple.

All with very little profit margin and higher support costs on it which is probably why HP is beating them.

542613 2007-04-21 11:02:00 hold on, how many of this 5 billion people actually have electricity, proper shelter and the time to fiddle with ms office? i know if i was a poor (insert any nationality here) farmer i would be busy growing food. and a computer is no good to a starving child with aids in a village suffering a maleria epidemic. birth control is what they really need.

it's still a noble idea, but it will also make microsoft billions of dollars (say they sell only 1 billion copies at $1 each).

i think this is microsoft's way of creating a market for themselves free of competition and improving public perception of them (it's still a business, and we've all seen their tactics in the past).

where are the mac fanboys when we need them?

It helps to read whole threads before posting.

That way, you don't simply repeat what others have said.
Posts here had already provided information or opinions which made yours superfluous.
