Wouldn't power up
Took battery out / just AC power - no change
Blue lite on front shows power going through
when I push the power button, I see a light under the s,w,e keys on the keyboard, the Blue lite on front shows power going through shuts off
Took 1 of 2 sticks of ram out - no change
took hard drive out - no change
put battery back in - powered up!?
put hard drive back in - powered up!?
put the 2nd stick of ram in - powered up!?
pulled the battery - wouldn't power up
put battery in - powers up.

front panel lights show the battery is on low power (amber)

I was under the impression that laptops would work without the batteries installed.
If so, why does this laptop not work with just AC power - no battery installed, but does work with AC power & battery installed.

& then also why does it quit working all together with any combination?

any ideas would be appreciated.

740365 2009-01-20 02:05:00 If the PSU is ok (test with a multimeter) the motherboard will be dead, probably not worth repairing. wratterus (105)

I too, have a Toshi A/100 so may be able to help you. Have found this lappie to be ultra reliable unfortunately this does not seem to be the same in your case.

First, suggest you use Toshiba built in Diagnostic Tool to analyse your computer if you are able to. START>TOSHIBA>UTILITIES>PC DIAGNOSTIC TOOL>DIAGNOSTIC TOOL Tab>SELECT ALL>START DIAGNOSTICS This will tell you of any trouble within the computer itself. Assuming this is not the case then the problem must be the battery and/or power pack.

One wonders, why you want to remove the battery anyway? If it is for the mistaken belief, you can over-charge the battery then don't bother. Toshiba batteries as well as most modern laptop batteries have a regulator built in to prevent this. Also think of the big hole at the back that allows dirt, bugs and God knows what to enter your computer.

Let us know how you get on.

740368 2009-01-20 20:34:00 BURNZEE, I followed your directions and did the diagnostics & it passed. One wonders, why you want to remove the battery anyway?
I have removed the battery because I have found through experience that removing the battery sometimes will clear boot up problems - as a temporary measure - once boot up has been achieved then the battery is returned.
and the power supply tested fine.

Which doesn't answer my question - will laptops would work without the batteries installed?
If so, why does this laptop not work with just AC power - no battery installed, but does work with AC power & battery installed?

Yep, I agree with blam6. Check the power pack input plug, ie move the plug gently around in its socket where it connects to the laptop.
