1434994 2017-05-06 15:18:00 Hello, I've never asked a question before on a forum.. But I can't find anyone who has the same problem as I have on the internet so here is my problem:

I want to set up an FTP server (without using a PC) on my TP-link router.
EDIT: I already have but it doesn't work as I want it to

My "main" router doesn't support file sharing or FTP with USB. But my second router (TP-link router) does.

My second router's default gateway is 192.168.0.2 but it made it an acces point so it has no ethernet cable in the WAN port (only in the LAN ports) and DCHP disabled so when you connect to it via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable your default gateway is 192.168.0.1 (the router downstairs/main router).

This is useful for port forwarding servers but my 1.5TB HDD is connected to my second router (and fully working) and I can connect to it with the path: \\192.168.0.2 or via the FTP server with the turbo client (FTP client app) with 192.168.0.2 and the username and password of the User Account you can customize yourself. (access and such)

Then what's the problem? you ask.
I can't connect to it using my external IP (www.ipchicken.com) when I'm not home. I tried port-forwarding the port 21 (default FTP server port) on the main router using the IPV4 address 192.168.0.2 (second router's IP) but then it still doesn't work. Also on the FTP page on my second router it says it has no internet address (which I assume would be the external IP when configured as a regular router (WAN) and not an access point) if anyone knows how I can make people that connect to myexternalip:21 connect to my FTP server (remember the router/access point IS the FTP server). Or any other way to make it work outside of my house.

Oh and let me know if I did anything wrong!

1434998 2017-05-08 03:03:00 Easy: If you can't get to it externally, it's going to be one of four things:
1) Your port-forward isn't working
2) Firewalling, on either router
3) Access controls preventing FTP access on the secondary router from a public IP address to the FTP service
4) There's an FTP service on the primary router that's preventing the forward or similar

Things you can try:
Port-forward something else, like try and get remote HTTP access to the second TP-Link and see if you can confirm that working remotely. If that does, work backwards and try and see why FTP isn't working

1435000 2017-05-08 12:38:00 What is your primary router?

What is your TP-Link router?

A lot I am just repeating what Chill said except for opening up another port.

You would need to check the firewall on the both routers , set port forwarding of all external connections to 192.168.0.2 TCP 21 and 20 on the primary router. Although it may not be necessary if you are using an FTP client that uses passive mode (PASV).

1435001 2017-05-08 22:19:00 Go back to basics : a single router.
If router2 supports ftp, then only use that & disconnect the other one.
Dont assume that a routers built in ftp is actually usuable, it could be buggy & worthless.See if others have similar ftp issues with that router (google)

Try & ftp to it from inside the LAN .

I did not find any solution so I'm just dealing with it at the moment. I just can't connect to it unless I'm at home (LAN)

You would think that a router is able to redirect you to your second router...

1435003 2017-05-17 22:51:00 And also I hosted servers before and even with this router setup it's possible (my pc and tp-link router are in the attic. ) KiemPlant (17547)
