| 1434045 | 2017-04-11 06:03:00 | I've had my Toyota Corona for about 18 months now, and it's been a good, reliable car. Anyway, I've been looking at something bigger, ideally a 4wd, for camping trips and the like. The Nissan Mistral seems to do what I want and be not too expensive on TradeMe. From what I can read, the engine is pretty bulletproof if well maintained, but it might be worth getting a check for any potential rust. Does anyone here have thoughts/experience with the Mistral? |

Went through it's WOF today without needing anything, but it's heading back to the garage sometime next week for a scheduled fanbelt + power steering belt change. Wouldn't sell it before I got that done, but if I do end up getting a Mistral, would be more than happy to sell :) Mine is a 1992 7th gen. |

They say lots of nice things about it in the blurb but rate the reliability/safety as Dodgy/Dodgy Known issues (summarised) Air flow meter fails at high km Gearbox electronics can lose the plot and cost a fortune front suspension struts prone to failure Rust in the floorpan - particularly if it's been towing a boat |

I'm realistic enough to figure that no 4wd from that vintage is likely to be perfectly trouble free. Even with the Toyota's the 2.4s are notorious for cracking head gaskets etc. | Nick G (16709) | ||
