| 1434568 | 2017-05-04 10:21:00 | There were valid reasons for me and family/friends to visit CBD - chiefly around 1970 - mid 80's. the "Grand" Civic Theater (www.aucklandlive.co.nz) (remember the large lion statue glowing eyes) to watch Clint Eastwood "Magnum" movies, and the numerous Chinese Kung Fu movies of the time. There were queues of people - towards Queen street. Or to frequent the many bars (Shakespeare, London bar, Albion, Royal, Alfies, etc), disco clubs (Trillo's, Imperial, Chase"s, etc), night clubs, underground clubs, etc My cousin ran a night club, constantly full. Also the gaming arcades. And to visit/shop the massive Farmers retail store, and Rendells - I think it was. Or to catch the ferry to the Auckland Harbour Gulf Islands or Devonport, visit war tunnels, and drink with Navy staff. I been in some of the tall buildings (ASB building), and Quay Towers, for job interviews, and visit work mates. Grand view of the harbour. Many windows were tinted - apparently to stop staff glazing outside - increased work output I was told by a mate. They - Council/LTNZ - seem to spend Millions on the motorways (e.g. Grafton Gully), and the new cycle track (www.stuff.co.nz)(stuff news) along the gully from upper Queen street. Maybe in CBD create a massive mall like the shopping Mall of America (en.wikipedia.org) or a large "Stuy Town" (en.wikipedia.org) like in NY's Manhattan (Wikipedia) (or village). They have a a trendy massive village in Takanini, which i helped move daughter recently. There may be other gentrified village/apartment only suburbs, e.g. Stone-fields in Mt Wellington. |

And to visit/shop the massive Farmers retail store, and Rendells Maybe in CBD create a massive mall l Movies available all over in the suburbs now. Ditto bars and clubs. Gaming arcades long gone. Farmers in all the malls, Rendells is gone. CBD when I have been through it lately seems to consist of $2 shops and endless food places. Pretty much like the main streets in Henderson, New Lynn, Mt Albert, where-ever. Why pay the mad parking to go there anymore? Malls, they're dying anyway.....online shopping is killing the over-priced retail shops. Wait till Amazon is in Aussie, that will make a big difference. |

| 1434570 | 2017-05-04 23:58:00 | its not 1970 anymore, the CBD holds no great attraction. Its just a pain in a** to go there now, parking issues, drunks, overpriced shopping, overpriced beer, 3/4hour drive just to get there. We all went to the CBD in the 70's as thats where the biggest & best shops were, and back then the movies were monopolized by just 2 NZ companies . All new releases pretty much only shown in the CBD, local independent movie theaters could only get 6-12 month old movies . The old school Movie theatres , Civic, St James , are a relic of the past . Tinged with unrealistic memories that dont reflect reality of what they actually were: cheaply made, poorly maintained . Theres good reasons no one wanted to refurbish the St James & was left to rot. Better to focus on better facilities in the suburbs. Councils need to let go this stupid dream of the CBD . Its just another place . :) |

| 1434571 | 2017-05-05 11:41:00 | The idea of using sprinklers to deter unsavoury behaviour in Queen Street doorways is disgusting. These sprinklers should be banned. The shortage of funds the council is continually whining about (at great expense) could be easily mitigated by selling seats on water tankers that drive slowly up and down the street. Each seat would be styled on a ships gun turret, and equipped with a very powerful water canon. This could be a hugely popular evening recreation with tourists and ratepayers bidding for the right to take five shots at these pesky no-hopers. Councillors and Council staff would score as bonus points targets with homeless people and drunks just getting a single point each. In line with council's policy, tourists would pay a surcharge above that charged to ratepayers, with the high scorer from each trip getting a refund of fees and a free seat on the next trip. ;) |

No, they should be fitted with green (or pink ) dye. :clap This has been an issue for some time. People sitting in doorways and recessed exits of high rises, gathering there to get drunk. Just do the sensible thing. Make being drunk in public a crime : thrown into a cell for 24 hours then released . Make drinking in public a crime , drinking on the streets & public places never leads to anything good. Same thing, thrown into the drunk tank if caught, sober or not. |

| 1434575 | 2017-05-09 06:26:00 | Auckland CBD is not really a New Zealand central city anymore, its an Asian immigrant centre. When driving down it you can play spot the White man and hardly see one. The old soldiers would spin in their graves if they saw Queen street now chokka full of non Caucasians. They would have wondered what they fought for. Why should taxpayer dollars from the rest of NZ pay for doing up Queen street for people that are not even born here?. Fence it off give it to the Asians. | prefect (6291) | ||
| 1434576 | 2017-05-09 23:03:00 | On Saturday mid afternoon, turned off at Motorway Grafton Gully (goo.gl) (Map street view under Grafton Bridge) and then the split junction (goo.gl) (street view)to Wellesley street off ramp - pass the university, turned pass the Art Galley - Victoria street, then down Queen street to Custom. Up Pitt - Hobson street to K road. Across to Newton then Grafton - Parnell. Then along water front to rest at Michael Savage Memoria (goo.gl)l (Street view). No change to his memorial on visiting over the decades. But plenty Asian present - busload. Then down to waterfront to Mission Bay. You know kiwi's - shirtless running about with Frisbee and rugby balls, sipping a few beers. Also eating up in numbers across at the trendy cafe's. - 100's of people walking along Queen street to who knows where. Yes many foreigners. - Queen street stop go traffic with "lengthy" stops at each of the traffic lights. Not unlike several years ago. - Wilson's parking lots (My favorite on Kitchener street was choked up) throughout CBD were filling up. Mass of vehicles - including buses, and of course people - Noticed City Link, Inner city, and Outer City Link buses (at.govt.nz) (AT website) are frequent and perhaps handy for traversing within CBD Drove back to our seemingly lessor suburbs, not without inadvertently touring around upmarket areas like Kohimarama, Remuera, Greenlane, Stonefields, etc. Google maps driving mode App comes in handy here...Even Aucklanders could get lost within other areas of Auckland. Multi mini cities, and malls... |

But I guess the drunks are exempted from these laws.. |
