| 1434024 | 2017-04-11 12:05:00 | I was a soldier in Burnham Camp. Two members of our team actually sailed on the Wahine from Lyttelton to Wellington that night. We took them to the boat to see them off. I remember someone yelling out, "I hope the ship sinks". Next morning we were in shock when we heard that the Wahine had sunk. Our mates both got off safely. A few days later I had to go to Trentham to join them on a course. I remember coming into Wellington and sailing past the wreck. | Bobh (5192) | ||

| 1434026 | 2017-04-11 19:33:00 | I drove North up the Desert Road that day. About the strongest wind that I have been on the road in. I sure would not have liked to be towing a caravan it was hard enough to keep my car on the road. | CliveM (6007) | ||

| 1434029 | 2017-04-11 20:53:00 | We lived on The Terrace at the time. Not just on it, but right at the top opposite the Salamanca Rd turnoff. If folklore is to be beleived she was pretty windy, and apparently my 2-year old butt was upstairs and somehow I managed to open a window in the toilet. The old man came in just in time to see it rip from the hinges and fly across the city towards the harbour. Apparently he was uphappy about it. |
