| 1434827 | 2017-05-02 01:52:00 | I'll be moving out of home shortly and I'm finally able to rid myself of the awful Vodafone stock router :D Since I've been out of the router market for some time I'm not sure what's good these days, does anyone have any recommendations? Would prefer Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11ac if possible, as well as easy port forwarding and assigning static IPs. Planning to go with Bigpipe once we move into the new place. | pcuser42 (130) | ||

| 1434831 | 2017-05-02 04:15:00 | Hey Wratterus, Bit of a highjack here :D, have you tried that Ubiquiti EdgeRouterX 5 on vodafones FibreX ? Trying to get away from the crappy Vodafone supplied router (as most people do). The TP-Link AC1750 is meant to have VLAN10 options ( which it does) but for the life of me I cant get it to work. When FibreX is working is great 900+Mbps, but they do have a problem sometimes :( |

| 1434832 | 2017-05-02 05:09:00 | I've not had a chance as we don't have any cable around here, but those Ubiquiti routers definitely have VLAN tagging and ought to work mint. I'd go for the ER-Lite for you - 1m pps with 64 byte packets vs 130k pps with 64 byte packets on the ER-X. Highly recommend trying one - for what they can do, they really aren't all that dear. You will need to enable hardware offloading on them to get gigabit throughput. Edit - a quick google search found me several people who have posted on geekzone who are using that setup. |

Just had Vodafone here looking into it again. There is a fault "somewhere" in the network between the cabinet and the Nodes. Something like noise is causing the speeds to drop. The way he explained it was what ever it is that's playing up creates so much noise on the line that it drops the modems back to a failsafe mode, which reduces speed, but keeps it alive. Apparently there's an active monitor on the area to locate the fault. They thought they had it narrowed down today, but by the time they got to the general area the fault had gone again. As he said there's been times all it takes is one faulty modem to cause a feedback. They just have to locate the problem. Its back to Normal now for this time of day 5.15pm (for a while) :banana 878.12Mbps. |

| 1434835 | 2017-05-02 07:52:00 | As above: Ubiquiti ER-X Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LR The ER-X will benchmark at 940mbps down and 800mbps up, concurrently, which is greater than Gig UFB so it's not a problem. The ER-Lite will do full Gig / Gig, but for home / small office there's likely little reason in NZ for the ER-Lite. The web interface is a little odd, but works fine, and port-forwarding / setting static IP's and the like is fine. As mentioned you *must* use HW NAT offloading, so upgrade to the latest firmware coz it's only supported since like 1.8.4 I think? 1.9.X is the latest. Can confirm the ER-X and ER-Lite both work with VLAN10, or, ring your ISP and ask they go for an untagged port and it makes life a whole lot easier :D The UAP-AC-LR is probably the most solid WiFi I've used, has fantastic range that's better than the TL-WR1043ND I used to use, plus it has 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz, and it just keeps ticking along nicely, no fuss! Might pay to check the last 6-9 months of TrueNet reports though, I don't specifically recall Bigpipe being too bad lately, I think it's just Vodafone and MyRepublic that have been awful, but I know they were a while back. Edit: Probably worth pointing out I had the Archer C7 running Gargoyle. Had to power cycle it twice in 3 months so replaced it two days after the 2nd power-cycle. It's been up for months now and doesn't miss a beat :D |
