| 1434543 | 2017-04-25 01:01:00 | I've just spent time with my tech-challenged neighbour who is having a problem with an external DVD player. Windows 10 refuses to recognise it. She says it is since the latest Windows Update (not the creators update) but I would take that with a grain of salt. When she clicks the desktop link she gets the message below. 8013 Device Manager doesn't show the device, and the solutions I found on the web haven't worked either. There is no problem with the device as it goes OK on my PC. I just realised I didn't actually try another USB port on her PC - maybe the issue? Any ideas? |

| 1434544 | 2017-04-25 01:39:00 | Have you tried going into the drive via "This PC" or from the explorer windows. That pic would suggest its only a shortcut to the Drive, and being USB all she would have to have done is plug in or remove some other USB device, then plug in the external Drive and the drive letter /path will have changed. |

Have you tried running sfc /scannow ? the solutions I found on the web haven't worked either Errrrrrrr what solutions?? , that's a little to vague as people will more than likely offer solutions that have already been tried. ;) Option 3 may work- then again may not usb-3-0-external-drive-windows-10/ (windowsreport.com) |

Can stillbe a driver problem - its happened before when MS update somethings, installs new "better" :rolleyes: Drivers or settings and something stops working. Hence the reasoning behind try another USB device like a USB Flash Drive - this will tell you if its a particular problem with the specific device or the actual USB port. Could also be like one of my Workshop PC's -- All my external Drives are USB3, but some ports simply wont see the external HDD, plug anything else into the same port works fine, plug the USB drive into a USB2 port and that works. |
