1485221 2022-03-31 19:44:00 Hi . Im considering getting Netflix.
Any better alternatives ? Neon, Amazon ?
perhaps a Documentary streaming service ?

I thought Netfix , as I'd like to watch some of the comedy stand up specials .
I cant actually find whats available on NZ's Netflix & whats missing . That would be usefull .

So , apart from sky (too expensive) , whats your TV streaming service of choice ?

You may find that you will need to shop (browse) around.

1485223 2022-03-31 20:34:00 Pretty sure Netflix does a free trial so you can browse through the_bogan (9949)
1485224 2022-03-31 20:35:00 We only have Netflix, (since we are with Vodafone and have Sky included - now separate but same price) did look at others but decided there's to much to select from already and don't get the full usage.

Netflix NZ has only a fraction of the USA programming, but with the help of a VPN you can use the NZ login to access USA content.

What you can do is try them all and see which one(s) suit your viewing pleasure. Most will have a Trial period that allows you to cancel at any time, Prime for example says it has a 30 day free Trial ?? BUT while I haven't signed up you may find you have to enter payment details and cancel before the trial ends if you dont want it.

Other wise they are cheap anyway for 1 month to have a look -- Less than a cup of coffee in Auckland :p

1485225 2022-03-31 20:38:00 Have you looked on TVNZ on Demand? It's free and has a lot better programming than the hopeless offering we receive directly on TVone. Bryan (147)
1485226 2022-03-31 21:16:00 +1 for Netflix, that plus TVNZ OnDemand is enough to fill most schedules.

A lot of interesting documentaries, though I avoid the more hipster ones.

1485227 2022-03-31 21:25:00 Ive just signed up for Netflix , cheapest option $12.99 (I assume NZ$ )
Not quite the cost of a Ak coffee, more like 2.5 coffee's .

480p seems a 1990's sort of spec, is it not 2022 ?
Why even offer that , should be 720p at least . If 480p is too low res to be enjoyable (on a 27" PC monitor) , I'll have to reconsider my streaming service choice .

I really wanted to see the Ali Wong & Chris Rock stand up comedy specials, I would have paid the $12.99 for the 2 of those alone. :)

1485228 2022-03-31 22:14:00 Curiosity Stream has lots of doco and science based stuff.

Remember - you can try all of them. Unlike sky you're not locked into a contract. Netflix for 3 months, then amazon, then neon. Cancel each at the end, and they lie dormant until you pick them up.

I had netflix for years, and stopped it to pick up disney plus.....might give it a little longer, and stop dusnet and go back to netflix to see the changes in the catalogues as they're always changing.

If they're not bundled with isp, somethign else, then you're more likely to realise the true cost and move. If they're bundled then you forget about them and get in the mindset of "I only have xyz"
