1484159 2022-02-04 22:38:00 Hi,

I'm going back to university and looking at getting a tablet, to comfortably read the eBooks / eArticles that I will access via the university's library website - which has an inbuilt reader thingy . Some articles can be downloaded, will use a PDF reader for those .

I have an iPad mini that is on its way out, it's 9 years old .

I don't think I need a fancy tablet with all the tools/functions - we already have an iPad Pro in the family, and several laptops and a desktop computer .

However, I do want a comfortable tablet, nothing buggy/lagging that will make me tear my hair out! It needs to make reading comfortable (screen resolution . . . ) . Suspect the main use will be reading (university website, and the Libby app for library eBooks), and watching streamed videos .

Quick look at PB Tech - The Lenovo and Samsung Galaxy tablets look good - anything regarding the specs I should watch out for?

1484160 2022-02-05 08:31:00 Don't buy an Amazon Fire tablet. I bought one from PB Tech a couple of weeks ago. Big mistake. Good price for a 10" 64 Gig 1080p screen. Easy to load the Google apps and remove the l9ckscreen adds but.. Amazon has removed the ability to add a 3rd party launcher and set it as default. There's lots of other things that don't work like a real Android tablet like casting Netflix and Prime video don't work. I'll keep it for a year and then look at a real tablet paulw (1826)
1484161 2022-02-05 23:34:00 Depends how much you want to spend, the 2 main differences between low and high end is the quality of the screen and how responsive they are to use. I just bought a samsung Tab S7 FE and it's great but it's also $725

The S6 Lite should also be a really good tablet or the tab A7.

The Lenovo ones should be ok too but I'm less familiar with them. It's fairly easy to google reviews of the models you are interested in. I'd personally avoid anything with 2GB or less RAM as they just struggle with running much on a modern version of Android and tend to be sluggish.

1484162 2022-02-07 10:13:00 I don't know if I'd want to read textbooks on any tablet, and most e-readers are too small...

I have a Kobo Aura (e-ink display) and I love it for reading novels. So much easier on the eyes than an LCD.

But it's not so good for textbooks because the display size means you can't view a whole page at once.

There are some 13" e-readers which will let you view a full A4 page at 100% scale, like Onyx Book Max or Sony DPT but they are over $1200!

Obviously a cheap tablet PC can be had with a large LCD screen for less, but the eye fatigue is real if you're reading a 300 page textbook!

1484163 2022-02-07 20:04:00 How much you spend is how good the tablet is.
The cheapest WILL be awefull , slow CPU and low res display
For 10", avoid the cheaper Screen Resolution: 1280x800 models.

I have a 10" Huawei tablet . its about the same spec as the more expensive Lenovo's , but far below the expensive $700+ Samsungs. Its OK .

You might be better off with a e-reader ?
I wouldn't want to use a tablet for reading alot of docs .
