1482904 2021-12-15 08:34:00 Dell Inspiron Win-10 laptop unable to detect a USB connected mobile Android phone.
This is an issue with a friend's laptop.
My own phone is detected on my PC, but not on his computer, or with his phone.
Any suggestions please?
TIA, Peter.

Also you need to check the cord being used with the phone to eliminate it as faulty by trying the cord and the phone on another computer.

1482906 2021-12-15 18:15:00 As long as the USB port is working ( as zqwerty suggested) make sure you have the correct cable. NOT all cables will work, the plugs may be the correct ones but that doesn't mean anything.

My own Android phone will only connect if using particular cable. The lighter cables generally don't work.

1482907 2021-12-15 19:38:00 Try above suggestions first

then try
disable power save on USB , in device manager
try new USB drivers . It may need a driver for USB3 or USB-C .
look at the USB port & check for damage on the actual port .

1482908 2021-12-15 22:25:00 The phone begins to charge when the cable is plugged into a USB-2 slot, but is not listed under 'This Computer'.
Am able to play USB drives okay.
Yes, it could be a faulty cable so will try a mix and match.
Thanks.

Thanks. Awhhh That's different. On the phone, drag down the very top of the screen, what you are looking for is the option to select what the USB does, its either Charge or transfer files.

Once you set it to transfer it will show under This computer. Just remember to put it back when finished.

.

It might a a CHARGE cable , not a data (and charge ) cable
First thing to try is another DATA cable .

1482911 2021-12-17 08:36:00 Watch the phone's screen when you plug it in and check whether it is asking for permission to connect to the PC. It can be easy to miss if the phone is "asleep" so you might have to wake it up first. tommy (2826)

Won't detect on USB 3.x ones.

1482913 2021-12-19 01:44:00 Thank you all.
It appears to be more than one problem.
1 - USB port towards the front of laptop the not connecting to the phone. Tried another port and became 'visible'.
2 - The connecting cable could only Charge the phone.
3 - Tried a short-length Samsung cable the the drop-down screen opened as Wainu suggested, so he
was able to download all the pictures from the phone.
A good learning curve. Thanks.
