1483753 2022-01-22 04:36:00 Can you get into the Bios?

No. I power on and there is whirring as things spin up, but that is all. Nothing ever appears on the monitor.

1483754 2022-01-22 04:54:00 Try a new battery, some mother boards don't like flat batts, has it got a video card or is it on-board video? zqwerty (97)
1483755 2022-01-22 05:06:00 Something left field , do you have another Monitor? or HDMI cable/DVI cable to swap around Lawrence (2987)

I did wonder about the battery.

I am sure that's not the issue, as it is not making any beeps, which I would expect with no memory/no keyboard etc. (only while testing).

1483758 2022-01-22 17:58:00 The motherboard does have a little speaker? Mine does not and has no way of making a noise before it boots. I could have connected one but didn't bother when I built it. CliveM (6007)
1483759 2022-01-22 20:01:00 Nah, it's definitely dead. I put in a new CMOS battery, and also to be sure reconnected the monitor, but still nothing but spinning fans. Tony (4941)
1483760 2022-01-22 20:02:00 I very nervously connected the PSU from the dead PC to the working PC. I powered on and it booted up no trouble, so I am satisfied that my problem is not with the PSU.

Ok. Good test.
That leaves motherboard.

I fear you are right. I think I'm resigned to the fact.
