| 1484433 | 2022-02-21 22:00:00 | I just learnt the smaller UPS in the lounge keeps my internet and NAS running for about 90 mins on Sunday as well so that's useful information The lower priced UPS's are really only designed to run a short time, not extended power outages, generally long enough for when theres a power cut or continuous Brownouts for you to go -- Oh bugger powers gone, save your work and shut down the computer in a controlled manner. If yo want long live you need to spend some serious $$$$. As for a UPS Blowing and taking out the Computer -- The better ones have surge protection as well as a Equipment protection policy, Example: APC Back-UPS ES 650 = Lifetime : $75000, so if it fails your equipment is also covered. AND they honor it -- Had a APC go bang on a MASSIVE Surge, fried the whole PC, they Replaced the Whole PC. |

| 1484434 | 2022-02-22 05:48:00 | I use a dynamix defender 1200 to run my ont and router just so the internet doesn't immediately go down in a power outage. I forgot that I'd plugged the NAS into it as well. Not really needed, just something I did after the kaikoura earthquake took out my power in Hamilton and left me with just the phone working. |
