| 1484358 | 2022-02-24 04:40:00 | I have read that exFat can be used in both Windows and Mac scenarios where HTFS is really only for Windows. exFAT wasn't available on Mac OS in the beginning either. It's a Microsoft thing and took some years to 'officially' come to Macs. exFAT now has native read/write support in OSX 10.6.5 and newer, as well as Windows XP and later (XP needs a hotfix though) NTFS has read-only support in modern versions of Mac OS, but you can gain read/write access by installing a 3rd party NTFS driver, of which there are many available (paid and free) Versions of OSX older than 10.6.5, and Windows 2000 and earlier don't support exFAT natively at all. Again, you would have to use a 3rd party driver (if available) Linux now has native support for both exFAT and NTFS with kernel v5.4+ (previously, exFAT support on Linux also required installing a 3rd party tool, while mainline NTFS support has been around much longer) |
