1484621 2022-02-26 04:47:00 Hey all, what would be another another good wifi router to buy. We currently have an Apple AirPort Extreme as we have everything Apple in our house. Am not very savvy in regards to these things but have noticed some issues with the WiFi/router before. I have explored Apple’s new Linksys Velop AX4200 WiFi 6 Mesh System, but they are so expensive! Anyone able to help, recommend, or am I better off buying the Linksys system? We only have wireless internet here as we live in the country. mark1978 (13845)
1484622 2022-02-26 21:19:00 We only have wireless internet here as we live in the country. Don't get confused with the internet connection and the local LAN. Routers are not perfect, you may get a good signal in one room but poor in another, this is due to obstructions like walls, insulation etc.

One customer I deal with she went to Noel Leeming, brought some fancy and expensive (close to $900 at the time ) mesh system and it was crap, the shop assistant told her it would cover the whole house -- HA!! it covered the main living area but down the hall where the bedrooms were it was almost non existent. She took it back and got her $$ back, and I installed a couple of lower priced access points using her original Spark Router and now she has 100% coverage.

You have to remember, doesn't matter what they like to call a Mesh - its nothing new, all it is ( in basic terms) is wireless access points joining together to create a "mesh" or net, its still only signals and any sort of wall or obstruction will stop / reduce its output.

Different houses will work differently. Our next door neighbors are apple everything users ;) and sometimes their wireless signal is stronger than my own.

1484623 2022-02-26 22:41:00 You don't mention what the issues are, you first need to confirm is it an internet issue or a WiFi issue. Is the router reliable if you plug a cable into it and use it that way instead of via wifi ?

You also have to be careful, networks can be screwed up by almost any device connected to them not just the router. I spent months convinced the router I reconfigured to be an access point in my garage was locking up my network once a day. I started a thread here and got a lot of suggestions, improved things a little by changing some settings, and basically just put up with it for another 6 months :) A few months back I replaced my $50 WiFi garage door switch with a better one so I could monitor if the door was open or closed remotely and suddenly all my network issues went away. Seems it wasn't the router it causing my issues but the cheap switch (new switch is using the same WiFi connection to the same router)

Some routers also just get flaky above a certain amount of connections or traffic. I'd suggest first trying to disconnect devices individually for a day or two and see if it makes a difference.

You wont get a good recommendation with us knowing EXACTLY what the issue is & what caused it.
Is it internet droppimng out , or wifi dropping out ?
Does a cabled in laptop/PC (not wifi) also have the issues?
Have you checked with your ISP to see if they detected any internet dropouts of your connection ?

If its a wifi issue, there is no magic single fix or single piece of hardware .
Sometimes Powerline Kits are they way to go, sometimes mesh, sometimes just a better AP .
More info needed to give a suitable recommendation
