741210 2009-01-22 20:55:00 I've been advised that this update is a bit suspect and can cause more issues than if fixes ie:instability, crashes etc

Any one else heard this or am I just getting some bad advise??
Cheers

741211 2009-01-22 20:58:00 Too many coffees this morning? Personally I've had no problems with it.
Serive Pack 3 actually seems to have made my computer run faster, although the spelling is a bit strange. They normally call them Service Packs.

741212 2009-01-22 20:59:00 Service pack 3 for what? Windows?

If Windows, it can cause probs if you use an HP / maybe Dell AMD system

And you dont check whether its affected or not before you install SP3

I doubt its suspect if most of the world have installed it

I've had it installed for ages (well its slipstreamed on a CD). So cant do much about it now :p

Whoever told you the above is probably paranoid

741214 2009-01-22 21:10:00 SP3 is fine. In fact it's even good. :)

The only issue with it is an intel driver that HP uses in their preloaded XP setups.

(The following may not be 100% correct, but it works.) :p

If you have a HP or Compaq PC or laptop with an AMD processor, before installing Sp3 jump into the recovery console and type disable intelppm.

That will also work after installing Sp3 when it isn't booting. Its the same driver that causes havoc when trying to change from an Intel CPU to an AMD one. Disable it and a repair-reinstall will work.

741215 2009-01-22 22:00:00 SP3 for Windows XP - Good
SP3 for Office 2003 - Bad

741216 2009-01-24 01:33:00 The only issue that I've had was that if you install IE7 after patching to SP3 IE7 craps itself and doesn't work.

The fix for this is to 1st upgrade to IE7 then deploy SP3 afterwards. I think it was a known bug... not too sure if there is a MS fix for it just yet.
