740854 2009-01-21 08:01:00 I have a Asus WL-520gu router to which I need to know if I can connect more than 1 wireless computer to it. I know it has only 1 wan and 4 lan, so does that mean I am limited in my connection? karbren (14078)

You can connect as many computers/laptops/whatever to your router using the wireless connection as you like (there is a theoretical limit, but you're not going to come close to reaching it).

I have an identical router to you here, and have 4-5 computers connected to it wirelessly at any one time.

740856 2009-01-21 08:42:00 That's good to know but how do I set the second computer up so I can achieve this properly. I have a fair idea but want to do this right first time rather than mucking around changing things I don't know. karbren (14078)
740857 2009-01-21 08:47:00 If you've encrypted it (dont use WEP, give it a passphrase, which you should do), put the same info on the other PC

Double click on its LAN properties. Go to TCP/IP and change it to use the following ip

And put an ip in, which is within the router's ip range, put the ip of the router in gateway, and in primary dns and one of the ISP's dns server ips in under secondary / alternate dns server

740858 2009-01-21 08:50:00 I currently use WEP for my sons laptop but I am not quite sure where I go to start for your instructions. karbren (14078)
740859 2009-01-21 08:55:00 If you want to change it to something other than WEP you need to change it in the router first to something like WPA or WPA2

BUT the connected / other computers need to support it as well

If you want to leave it on WEP (which is probably not a good idea, other people may use your broadband). Just do the same as what you did on the sons PC

740860 2009-01-21 09:00:00 I set up that with the help of the guy I brought it from as there was a number I had to copy from the router setup page but when I tried to do the same for my sons PSP it would not connect. I was using this as trial in order to see if I could get it going before I tried my other PC. It was put on WEP because we couldn't get WPA working for some reason. karbren (14078)
740861 2009-01-21 09:04:00 WHAT firmware version is on it??

It looks like its up to 3.0.0.3 as of 12/1/09 now

Have a look here (vip.asus.com)

See if someone has the same prob / and a fix

740862 2009-01-21 09:05:00 If you mean the router it is an ASUS karbren (14078)
740863 2009-01-21 09:07:00 Nope, routers have firmware (kind of like BIOS updates), which may fix known probs / issues.

The version should be in the router somewhere
