545240 2007-04-29 13:23:00 My flatmate and I decided that we wanted to play badminton, so we headed down to the warehouse to try find a cheap set. They didn't have any badminton sets, and neither did any other shops in Invercargill except for smiths City (they only had an expensive one).

Does nobody down here play badminton?

545241 2007-04-29 14:02:00 Well I play badminton and though I get expensive pro racquet's, but I could have sworn that I used to see heaps of cheap badminto sets in the aisle with all the tennis balls and weights etc. See if they will order some for you from another store or head over to your local Cash Converters and check there. beeswax34 (63)
545242 2007-04-29 21:31:00 I don't know if it's a good or bad sign, but our local cash converters closed - as did a couple of other similar stores. There will probably be studies "real soon" to investigate causes and ways of getting consultants involved. R2x1 (4628)

545244 2007-04-29 22:05:00 You wouldn't eat cheap food would you?

Cheap-o badminton sets are fraught with inferior materials that will fail you on a backhand smash or a "birdie spin" all at the wrong time . . . causing you to forfeit the game at a very inconsiderate and embarrassing time or place .

Country-of-origin is another serious point to consider here too .

"Made In Korea" or "Made in Sri-Lanka" are all indications that you are shopping in a less-than-professional shoppè .

Go with the classy stuff . . . you'll only then have to buy that one set for the rest of your life .

Try to find a set authorized and signified by the Queen Mum if you can .

Make sure you see that the original wrapper is intact .

That's classy! Wear an Ascot .

Did you try the warehouse as they used to sell the complete badminton sets a few years ago, also have a look at the badminton hall and see if anyone is trying to flog their old gear off

545246 2007-04-30 09:24:00 BADMINTON!!!!!!!!!!

If I am not mistaken, The Warehouse sells 4 el cheapo racquets for $20 few months ago. Although this deal might have disappeared, I am sure you can still get a reasonable good racquet for about $20 or $30.

Yonex badminton racquets are what you should go for if you are really into it. I have still got my dad's Carbonex racquet, which is older than me. :D

BADMINTON!!!!!!

Cheers :)

Are there any sports stores around your area? They are bound to have something in your price range...

There is a big (for Invercargill) Rebel sport store that didn't have anything either.

I just want a cheap one because it won't be used much - it is just for sunny weekends when we are looking for something to do outside.

The Warehouse does have some cheap racquets, but no sets & no nets.

545249 2007-04-30 10:56:00 To be honest, it is almost impossible to play outdoors in New Zealand on a normal day, except during early morning.

Net - If you don't mind the simplicity, you can just tie a string across two poles or two plants, which is what I usually do.

Shuttlecock - If you are really tight on money, I suggest you go for Yonex plastic shuttlecocks. They tend to last longer than feathered ones plus their performance difference is barely noticeable as well.

Cheers :)
