| 544626 | 2007-04-27 01:22:00 | My first PC had Windows 3.1. I still have the actual box for it as well, sadly there is no price tag to tell me how much of a dope I was to buy it. But I still have a pricing book from 1993. $2325 for a 425MB Harddrive anyone :D? |

In all likelihood, they never actually made a proactive decision to select Windows, in the sense of looking at alternatives and making a conscious objective choice. So how did they end up with it? Because: The Amiga was dead. Well not the actual hardware but it was an obsolete PC. So, did I go Mac or PC? PC was chosen for various reasons. UNIX or DOS.....wasn't hard at the time........DOS> And from there came WIndows. |

At the time (1997), the most supported platform was PC, and the most supported OS was Windows. Seemed a pretty obvious choice... |

| 544629 | 2007-04-27 04:38:00 | Can anyone imagine the turmoil if rather then the easy to use GUI of windows 3.1 and W95 the world was instead presented with whater shape Linux happened to be in at the time. Like it or not, The better suited suite won the day. That day has passed though, But still no heir to the throne has been concieved. Regarding prices, I butchered my in-laws 486 machine, They were distraught, very distraught, Seems it had cost them near 10 grand, and I had stripped the guts out of it and discarded the rest. Still, I supose informing them I done it due to boredom and the combined value of the parts I took were about $6 warmed their hearts. |

| 544630 | 2007-04-27 05:03:00 | My first PC I could do whatever I wanted on it (ie. not my parent's PC) was a second hand Windows 95 PC, then I removed 95 and tried to install 98, but didn't let me. After juggling second hand PCs for a while I got a "fancy" new Dell. I ended up with Windows because I wanted it. | pcuser42 (130) | ||

| 544634 | 2007-04-28 01:09:00 | We "all" ended up with Windows because Bill Gates had a dream to put a cheap PC on every desktop (by fair means or by foul). And if it hadn't been for Bill Gates, Linux wouldn't be where it is today. MacOS wouldn't be where it is today. Period. |
