2009-01-23 02:40:00 | What OS are you using XP or Vista - that will be easier to give instructions. | wainuitech (129) | |
2009-01-23 02:41:00 | what model d-link do you have? | nedkelly (9059) | |
2009-01-23 02:42:00 | should be the same wainuitech if Lani is using the internet based configuration manager | nedkelly (9059) | |
2009-01-23 02:43:00 | Do I enter this into my address bar, as in http://"Domain Name Server numbers" | Lani (14224) | |
2009-01-23 02:46:00 | should be the same wainuitech if Lani is using the internet based configuration manager Nooooo I mean what OS if its XP then giving instructions on how to set a static IP on the PC is different to Vista - no point in give Vista instruction if its XP. Not concerned about the router ( yet) - if you have a router and dont set the PC to a static IP, the router can issue any IP it feels like - which makes port forwarding a waste of time.

2009-01-23 03:17:00 | Okay - Easy - set the PC to a static first - find out what its using - Click start / run type in cmd <enter> In the command box type in ipconfig /all ,<enter> note down the IP address and gateway and DNS servers . Now Go into the control Panel, Locate network Connections, open it, right click on your LAN connection, properties, double click Internet protocol TCP/IP, put a dot in the Use this Address type in the first address you got from the ipconfig . I'll make these up but you'll see what I mean . IP Address: 10 . 1 . 1 . 25 Subnetmask 255 . 255 . 255 . 0 Default gateway 10 . 1 . 1 . 1 DNS servers 203 . 96 . 152 . 4 203 . 96 . 152 . 12 Those setting will look similar, the DNS servers I put are Telstra, but you will put in the numbers from your ipconfig /all reboot the PC, the PC will now tell the router its having the IP address you told it instead of the other way around . Open Utorrent - under options/preferences /connection ( just checked) on the right will be the port number its using . Write it down . IF your router has the gateway of 10 . 1 . 1 . 1 then in your browser type in http://10 . 1 . 1 . 1 Press enter - you will be presented with a log in screen . Go to the section that has the port forwarding - enter in the port number where it asks, and ip address which you gave as static - save it, and bingo you should now have port forwarding enabled to that IP address . See attachment below for one of my PC's thats port forwarded . To try a LEGAL torrent download - go Here its a Vista Recovery CD ( . net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/" target="_blank">neosmart . net) - should come through at about 130+ Kb / Sec
