| 544442 | 2007-04-26 11:04:00 | Um... remind me what the appeal of Switzerland is? :groan: For me it is/was a nuetral country during WW2. Other than that you could live in a Chalet and go skiing. Yep we can do that here too.. If you happen to be a real skiing enthusiast you might want to swap hemispheres. |

A company either has to compete with other companies on price, or on innovations and providing something that competitors don't offer eg. a niche product. It appears that F&P are now just going to be a cut price provider of whiteware. The public are also to blame, as people will now often just buy the cheapest product, no matter what brand it is or where it is made. While holidaying in Singapore, I managed to buy NZ made products cheaper than in NZ. All along we have been reaped off becuase of the lack of competition. NZ is termed as a low wage economy and things are so expensive here. My annual salary increment is not even sufficient to cover all the increases for rates, insurance, petrol tax, vector, water, etc. I am actually doing welfare work. NZ is fast sliding from a 1st world to 3rd world, or already near there. It's fortunate that there is the agriculture and dairy sector, but soon they will be overtaken by other bigger countries, namely China and India and the protectionist behaviour of many countries will restrict our exports of such products. In another 5 to 10 years time.... (if things stay the same, with high taxes and low wages,hi and low wage disparity, etc) I can't imagine. Unless we do something to reverse the situation now. Don't forget, such actions may take decades to fruition. We need people with long sightedness. Th current lot of governemnt is very short sighted who doesn't know what to do but taking the credit for what is already existing in the system. It will not last. |

So would you like to move to Singapore on a permanent basis? Personally I like the laws they appear to have there. Spit on the footpath you will get hung sort of. Do not expect to be able to buy a house there though. We get the Government we deserve. We have MMP system at the moment and as Phillip Fields seems to be out at the moment this gives the Green Party more POWER in my opinion. Quite a few list MPs should be out real soon now. Do not forget we have Civil Servants who do not get voted out and they are the people who advise the Government. I have no idea how old you are Taurus but maybe join a Party of your choice and change the system. I will say that Labour has changed laws and done quite a lot whereas other previous Governments have not. Not always for the benefit of New Zealand as a whole unfortunately. Fairly sure you could replace the like of Nandor Tancos, Keith Locke and others I could think of. I have worked for the same employer for ten years now. Started on $10.00 per hour. Now on $13.50. Going backward considering inflation rate. In July this year I will be 65 and therefore eligible for a pension. National appears to want to raise the pension age. Cullen appears to have a very large Surplus. Who are going to vote for assuming you are old enough to vote? |

| 544449 | 2007-04-26 13:14:00 | I'm afraid the dream or aspiration of New Zealand becoming a Switzerland of the South Pacific died with Rogernomics in 1984. I managed to tie up my truck muffler with 12 guage wire two days ago. Sorry I did not use 8 guage. I might have a look at Ireland. |

| 544451 | 2007-04-26 16:25:00 | While holidaying in Singapore, I managed to buy NZ made products cheaper than in NZ . All along we have been reaped off becuase of the lack of competition . NZ is termed as a low wage economy and things are so expensive here . My annual salary increment is not even sufficient to cover all the increases for rates, insurance, petrol tax, vector, water, etc . I am actually doing welfare work . NZ is fast sliding from a 1st world to 3rd world, or already near there . It's fortunate that there is the agriculture and dairy sector, but soon they will be overtaken by other bigger countries, namely China and India and the protectionist behaviour of many countries will restrict our exports of such products . In another 5 to 10 years time . . . . (if things stay the same, with high taxes and low wages,hi and low wage disparity, etc) I can't imagine . Unless we do something to reverse the situation now . Don't forget, such actions may take decades to fruition . We need people with long sightedness . Th current lot of governemnt is very short sighted who doesn't know what to do but taking the credit for what is already existing in the system . It will not last . Ya know . . . if I were to change a few words/places in this post to "US" and "China" and "Mexico" . . I swear, this post would be the same as we see in our editorial columns in US newspapers . Somehow (here come the flames) when I mention that what the US does also affects NZ . . . I get hate mail . . . . . but consider this . . . . . You are getting the SAME treatment in NZ as we are getting here in the US . . . bad politicians . . . bad laws . . . bad morals . . . bad wages . . . overpriced housing . . . . gasoline pump thievery . . . . cheap/poor quality goods at lower prices . . . and a labor pool that originally was second to none that is now equal to a dirt shacked 4th-world resident who hopes to own his own cow someday . I am sorry that things are going that way there too in Upsidedown Land . . and I really yearn for things to not be so . . . but somehow we have all been sold down the river here in the worker bee class . Middle class is just a term . . it doesn't exist any more . Actually we can hope to climb TO middle class if we are fortunate . :groan: The whole world has been sold a dream . . . and at the same time that dream is slowly pulled away . Are you as happy as you used to be? . . . . . or happier than you were? What does retirement bode for you? Will you/CAN you actually retire? How much money do you have in the bank? What's the currency exchange doing to you now? Do you notice that the things you buy at Wal-Mart are really seconds and irregulars? Since almost everybody buys and desires these inferior things at these places, ask yourself: "Who is buying the good stuff and who is selling it?" (Answer: there IS no good stuff any more . . we have been trained by the marketing mavens that low prices rightfully stifle our yearning for quality) . We are mollified into thinking we are living the good life all the while we are being exploited and consumed as in the theory on frog boiling . You (and we too) are being socially devolved . I had a strange feeling a few weeks ago when I walked into a Wal-Mart and realized that EVERYTHING I WAS WEARING WAS PURCHASED FROM Wal-Mart . . . . . and yet, here I was buying more . Maybe Wal-Mart is Orwell's "T" |
