546052 2007-05-01 15:27:00 Some info. I found while on the net looking at tv's. from the www.philips.co.nz website.

The free to air digital platform and HDTV, which SKY will release in 2008, will be a significant improvement in this country's broadcasting quality and content. HD, in particular offers a far superior picture quality as it can provide more picture information than a standard television signal, resulting in a far sharper picture.

However, while the Government is assuring consumers that digital TV will be accessible from any colour television through a set top box, the proposed HDTV format SKY will introduce requires an extra copy protection system, High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) to view the HD content.

If you are looking at upgrading your television set in the near future be sure it is compatible with Sky's plans for HDTV by checking the TV you buy is HD and HDCP compatible, via a digital HDMI or DVI connection.

*For compatibility with Sky's proposed introduction of HDTV. Information correct at time of publication June 2006.

Makes you wonder if all those people who bought lcd tv's early on will be ok for all this new tv stuff.

546054 2007-05-01 22:35:00 Interesting Memphis. I am about to upgrade to an LCD and that info will be handy to have. I haven't found the article on the Philips website as yet. Pato (2463)
546055 2007-05-02 05:27:00 Was hoping that someone with knowledge would comment further on the High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) mentioned in the Philips article. I wonder if it is just blurb to sell Philips TV's?. Pato (2463)
546056 2007-05-02 07:29:00 HDCP and other similar abominations are like the bellowing of the last dinosaur as it sinks into the swamp. Do not stand too close or you too will be sucked in. R2x1 (4628)
