2007-04-30 20:47:00 | Hi guys I've been d/l'ing some more avatars that I want to use, but they're all a bit too big. Now I'm a n00b with Graphics packages - tried to adjust the size but it either blurs or you can't see anything. Working on either PaintShop Pro or MS Photo Editor (the packages available at work) how do you adjust the size easily (there must be an easy, quick way) or would you suggest I play with it on another package at home? Any suggestions? sarel

2007-04-30 21:30:00 | What were you doing in Photo Editor? Remember that the avatar is 80x80 pixels so you have to crop the original image into a square format before resizing and 80x80 will only look any good at thumbnail size, if you blow it up it will be blocky.

You will see that when it's bigger it actually looks crap- all blocky as Paul D said. The fact that it looks ok small is an 'optical illusion'. If you've got an avatar that's close to the size required, just open it in the paint program and resize it down... I think in PhotoEditor you will be able to have a drop down menu to change the dimensions from 'mm' to 'pixels'. If you set it for the largest dimension to be 80 pixels you'll be ok. |

2007-04-30 23:11:00 | I would use a program like Ifranview. What I usually do is... Load image Select a portion of the image that is a multiple of 80. e.g 160 pixels across by 160 pixels high. Copy and paste into a new file. Shrink image down to 80x80 with proportional sizing Save new image. Load onto PF1 If you have an image that is say... 320 wide x 260 high, do not resize to 80x80. It will look warped. If you let the ifranview auto size, it should stretch it automatically for ya.

2007-05-01 00:52:00 | I just uploaded a 1600x1600 avatar (see over there <- ) and it looks fine..what's all this about resizing them? | SurferJoe46 (51) | |
2007-05-01 03:09:00 | Press F1 has a mind of its own, it resizes avatar jpg for you. I've put up several that have been either 12kB or just under and they have then appeared at around the 2 to 3kB mark. My current one before loading is a jpeg 11.8kB, and 200x171 pixels. It appears in PF1 as 80x68 px and 3.13kB. Remember Bruce said 80x80 pixels or 12kB whichever is the smaller.
