545942 2007-05-03 02:03:00 In other words you mean that both your Personal Computers, one which is a desktop and one which is a laptop, run both Windows and Linux.
Mine too. (Or my two too run two)
Linux for serious, Windoze to stop me feeling the world is totally rosy. When I run Winders it stops me feeling so guilty about the starving millions. They may be hungry. but at least they don't have Windows.

While being one of the first personal computers, the Altair 8800 was considered a "mere toy" due its lack of abilities.
While being one of the first personal computers, the Altair 8800 was considered a "mere toy" due its lack of abilities.

A personal computer (PC) is a microcomputer whose price, size, and capabilities make it useful for individuals. The term was popularized by Byte magazine, as well as Apple with the Apple II in the late-1970s and early-1980s, and afterwards by IBM with the IBM Personal Computer.[citation needed] Personal computers are also known as home computers. Often, the term "Personal Computer" is used exclusively for computers running a Microsoft Windows operating system, but this is erroneous. For example, a Macintosh running Mac OS, or an IBM PC compatible running Linux, are also personal computers. This confusion stems from the fact that the term "PC" is often used as a shorthand form for "IBM PC compatible"'.
:D
Just fishing............

545946 2007-05-03 06:22:00 The DEC PDP8 was the first "personal computer", on sale in 1964. It fitted on a (strong) desk (though it needed floor space for the Teletype ASR33 console), and was the first usable computer to cost less than $10000, in the base configuration.

"Personal Computer" (with the capitals) was the name IBM chose for its 1984 5050 product.

545947 2007-05-03 06:25:00 The magazine is boring - got mine 1st may. Still in wrapper. When I get a spare 20min I might open read and throw on the rest of the pile - still kicking myself for subscribing again.

My problem is they have little new information they can share and so go for sensationalism to sucker in the readers. This of course is limited so its the same ol blame telecom this, blame telecom that, blame govt this blame govt that dribble dribble dribble. Surely the comments on this thread should make fairfax management consider a change of upper management - it is the Kiwi way. If the team dont perform - sack the coach.

trip trap . . trip trap . . trip trap . . . plop!

I've been wondering whether all the Fis . . erk! Vista negativity in the press and in mags like PC World in particular, needs to be counteracted by some good news .

Along those lines I've been thinking of posting various links and (attributed) extracts on Fis . . Vista sales and newly discovered features and, of course, some of the old favourites that were carried over from earlier Windows iterations .

Would it fly?

545950 2007-05-03 07:04:00 Well i'll add my 2 cents worth

I like Geoffs blog and most of his articles, in fact his is the blog i read most often

I like the cover CD as a lot of the content is stuff i would never download or even look at online, although i do like the idea of older versions of programs as previously mentioned

Personally I'd like to see a few more competitions (I'm a sucker for them), and a decent size tutorials section in each magazine, as in 10 or 11 step by step tutorials ranging from things like optimising images to using the software on the cover disk
