545932 2007-05-02 03:17:00 Thats the same situation all over the world, and it is not just restricted to NZ. It is just as bad in Oz. For people who don't live in urban areas, broadband via ADSL is usually going to be nowhere as good. THis is mainly an econimic thing, as NZ is so spread out, and there are only a few high concentration areas. It is one of the sacrifices people who don't live in urban areas have to make, for the 'cheaper' rural living, unless you go for wireless or internet via 3G.However I think vodafones 3G network is also only in a couple of urban centres.

Who cares about rural areas?, I doubt any jokers are thinking anything is going to change on that front, Satilite will have to do them.

Smaller towns will have to make do with ADSL, If the system was healthy and the strain was taken off it by a better system in the large centers then everything would be fine.

Provided the ability to set prices and data caps is removed from Telecom.

545933 2007-05-02 04:38:00 I've got a couple of nice ones here from Olympus, so he should be sweet.

And I suppose PC World will be renamed Camera World

545934 2007-05-02 04:44:00 Leave Geoff out of it.
I like most of his writing and read it and re-read it.

Of course he gets a bit off track sometimes and writes about Linux

545935 2007-05-02 05:25:00 Well i'll add my 2 cents worth

I like Geoffs blog and most of his articles, in fact his is the blog i read most often

I like the cover CD as a lot of the content is stuff i would never download or even look at online, although i do like the idea of older versions of programs as previously mentioned

Personally I'd like to see a few more competitions (I'm a sucker for them), and a decent size tutorials section in each magazine, as in 10 or 11 step by step tutorials ranging from things like optimising images to using the software on the cover disk

545937 2007-05-02 08:28:00 You guys are allowed to rant and rave til you're blue in the face...why can't Geoff?

:p

Well, I don't get paid for ranting and raving ad nauseum on my favourite hobby horse (unfortunately).
But I wonder if he actually wrote this month's rant or just copied and pasted it from a website. It contains nothing that is relevant to NZ PCW readers, as far as I can see.

545938 2007-05-02 14:54:00 Yeah more reviews of Mobos / Graphics Cards / random XYZ things. Reviews are always cool! Benchmarks are even better :D

And Im with Plod, would love to see more stuff on Linux / Mac! Even though Im quite happy without a Mac for now, its still nice to know what else is out there.

Even though Im quite happy without a Mac for now, its still nice to know what else is out there.I agree that comparisons and a bit of info about Macs and what Linux is doing... but keep in mind that it's PCWorld... not MacWorld or LinuxWorld.

The editors and contributors are doing good to keep their focus along with topics of periphery interest.

545940 2007-05-02 22:37:00 PC = Personal Computer

My Personal Computer & my Personal Laptop run both Linux & windows

Its not "WindowsWorld" either, and so much Microsoft-related stuff in the mags, somebody might think they're paying FairFaxBM for all the publicity they're giving their products.

545941 2007-05-02 22:50:00 My Personal Computer & my Personal Laptop run both Linux & windowsIn other words you mean that both your Personal Computers, one which is a desktop and one which is a laptop, run both Windows and Linux. Greg (193)
