545520 2007-04-30 06:42:00 Failure to understand something is not a crime. Disagreement is not a crime.

Why not discuss the subject?

Personal abuse is not discussion. It's certainly not mature behaviour, whatever the calendar age of the perpetrator.

Nope. But the stupidity it takes to say that my children should be taken off me because they get a smack should be.

That is the point. Not the "failure to understand".

545522 2007-04-30 06:48:00 allblack, Your right why I am I trying to rationalise with this idiot…..

I give up.

One finial word on this:

If the anti-smacking bill does get passed (I think its going to have a hard time getting passed any way) If & When I have kids I will smack them if they misbehave…...

Also I think in a few years time this bill will come back & bite the Govt in the butt & I think many if not most parents will forget about this bill as it is un police able.

545523 2007-04-30 06:51:00 Stu...it'll pass. And quickly.

The fun will begin when they try a "test case".

But my kids will continue to get a clip around the ear as and when required.

545524 2007-04-30 06:52:00 Helen clark shares my view. Here are some countries with antismacking LAWS already:

EU COUNTRIES WITH SMACKING BANS

Austria
Croatia
Cyprus
Denmark
Finland
Germany
Iceland
Latvia
Norway
Romania
Sweden
Ukraine
What a wet sock!
You just need to look at some of the stastistics from Sweden (the longest to have anti-smacking laws) to realise that it aint all roses over there. The interesting one is that there has been a very large increase in kids assaulting other kids.

545525 2007-04-30 06:53:00 ahahaha. well your wrong. wrong wrong wrong. well allblack how does it feel to be wrong? I'm nOT 14. I am an adult just like you. I am 22 years of age. Shame.

I don't believe you. You sound like a 13 yr old. Or less.
If you are 22 then go back to school. learn to spell, learn some grammar and learn not to sound like a spoilt brat. Daddy spanked you today did he?

545526 2007-04-30 07:01:00 Age and maturity dont go hand in hand . . . . . . . . . .

Its not the average person that the bill is aimed at is it? even tho some on here may think so .
its aimed at the child beaters who end up killing their child with the loving hand . . . . . . . . but its gone to the over kill option . . . . . . . . . . . . controlling all hitting is the way to stop this? im not sure it will .

I abhore violence . . . . . . . . both physical, emotional and verbal . . . . . . . . . but that doesnt mean that NZ's as a nation need to be punished because they punish their children in the method they choose . . . . . . . . Violence will still happen . . . . children will still be beaten . . . . . . . . . some may still die . . . . . . . Hopefully education will help resolve this issue in time . . . . . . . . . . . . . possibly not the law / the bill the government thinks will succeed . . . . . .

545527 2007-04-30 07:16:00 The way I see it is as such:

Sometime a while ago, they dropped corpal (corporal?) punishment from schools. Then the kids started beating up the teachers and abusing the heck outta them a lot more than at any time before (when they could be physically punished).
Smacking in homes... there are those who use weapons other than a hand, or those who go way overboard in their "justifiable" punishment (these things should definitely be looked at in the anti-smacking bill). BUt not the smack around the back of the legs, or the smack on the hand (using ones open hand as the ONLY weapon).

I remember getting the belt on the bare ass, as I got older it was power cord one time, and then as a teen I got clipped under the ear (enough to make it ring). Hurt, but in the end didn't do me any harm and helped keep me outta trouble as a teen and young adult

545528 2007-04-30 07:16:00 Well, well markh so you are an adult eh? Where I (and most on this forum come from) is from the world of hard knocks where we were taught to listen and learn-not dribble off at the mouth before we spat the dummy. So you consider yourself an adult at 22. Well b****r me! An adult for your information is accepted when he has proved himself to be so-it certainly was where I came from but so far you have said nothing that gives me any hope that you will ever be an adult. Ever been to Glasgow or anywhere overseas markh? You would quite simply not be tolerated. I think you are mistaking your age as a sign of adulthood. Bollocks- age has nothing whatsoever to do with being an adult. Being an adult I suspect is something you will have trouble coming to terms with. Sounds to me like you have had a sad childhood. From your post I would say that most on this forum might say that you probably needed a damned good smacking a long time ago and I would be the first to offer you the option. No offence markh but I have an idea that at 22 years of age you will have a lot of catching up to do on this forum before you are accepted as an adult.
Regards Gordon.

545529 2007-04-30 07:37:00 Age and maturity dont go hand in hand.......... Oh dear, beetle. Some people seem quite determined to prove that, don't they? Sadly, such behaviour doesn't inspire belief in any arguments they might present. Graham L (2)
