546349 2007-05-03 06:51:00 The restraint of trade issue would depend on the wording in the contractor contract with Sky. If it was clearly included, then it was a known risk to the contractor at the time but probably unrecognised.

It may be there by stealth of course, in that the contractor cannot do anything that may adversely affect the party issuing the contract. That would make it somewhat subjective. It will not be long until it is challenged in that case.

Just bought a dish, decoder LNB etc today, but it will be a few weeks before I have time to try it out. I don't think I need a contractor.

546350 2007-05-03 06:59:00 When the electricity industry was deregulated, some companies imposed restraint on some of their contractors (meter readers) insisting that if they wanted to work for them, they were unable to do work for any other.

It lasted about 3 months before the economics showed that you either employed then as your own staff, or let them do any and all work.

546354 2007-05-03 08:43:00 Without Sky, you can only switch off, or watch the rubbish on free to air channels.
Enough for what we watch !!

546355 2007-05-03 09:04:00 don't forget with sky its subcontractors who do the work not contractors. so sky are shielded to a fair degree.

for you self installers don't forget you really need to use a meter to tell you signal strength. there is often one built into the set top box however its not very accurate.
2ndly do not under estimate how much wind these dishes catch. i've had a guts full of sky dishes falling off homes, damaging walls etc due to prior installing. they need to be screwed into 2" structural timber. i've actually had one that twisted the stud in a wall. secure with stays if required.

546356 2007-05-03 09:56:00 I have to get up the roof to take a look at what sort of satellite dish I had (assuming it's a sky dish), came installed when the house was bought. msnforum (11610)
